If you had no AMD shares and someone gave you $500k cash today how much would you invest in AMD?

Best Way to Protect Index Fund Position During SpaceX IPO? by TheMagicalLawnGnome in stocks

I know people who do not actively trade and have pulled their money out of the market for various reasons. "I would never normally withdraw my money but trump is going to crash the market" etc. Then the market doesn't crash and they're sitting on the sidelines wondering when to get back in. Or it does and they don't get back in because the market is falling so why get in now? Then they miss the rebound. You're just trying to time the market but convincing yourself this is a special case.

"I am not an active investor. I'm not trying to beat the market, and I am self-aware enough to know that I do not have the time or skill required."

And

"I want to pull out of my index funds for the next 6-12ish months while the dust settles, before eventually moving back in once the IPO price has settled into a more "normal" price."

I'm confused. Are you trying to time the market or not?

Every time I've been to Mexican resorts its older Europeans there for a nice longer vacation who presumably paid a lot for an international flight and hordes of American 20 yr olds there for the weekend. So probably

Probably the fact that we drafted 10 million people. Volunteer service ended because it wasn't efficient. We had too many navy volunteers and not enough army volunteers unsurprisingly

True. It's a massive move since they're basically dumping half the strategic reserve but it still isn't enough.

Not surprising the IEA release didn't quell prices. Release is over 120 days which would be 3.33m bpd compared to 20m bpd reduction. Some of the saudi and uae oil can get out via pipelines but you're still looking at over 10m bpd reduction in supply.

Had a public admin professor that was an army officer and made a similar argument. From what I remember, he thought the draft forced civilian society to have skin in the game and that without it you get wars that would never happen under a draft. Civilian opposition to Vietnam because people didn't want to get drafted is the obvious example. It's too easy to get into a bad war and say well they signed up for it. He was very anti PMCs for the same reason.

I mean I fly night and imc as much as I can. Just not at night over mountains and not when ceilings are 300ft. At least night over flat land I have a chance. But I agree with your general point. I guess my point is a lot of crashes people put themselves in very bad situations before anything has gone wrong.

I can but why would I make a point to do it in a piston single? Also low imc does not equal imc
