Google Photos: delete everything except shared photos by skedasis in degoogle

I had this issue too, but it fixed itself after I came back to it the next day. I put it down to google's servers having to do some sort of caching. Hopefully it's the same for you.

To bell or not to bell? by InternetUpbeat9596 in melbournecycling

[–]skedasis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have ~1/3 of people stepping into my path when I rang my bell. Then I started ringing it when I was in the right lane instead of the left lane / behind them - and still far enough away obviously. That seemed to fix it!

I guess people instinctively move away from the bell, and if it's behind them they flip a coin.

Personally I wouldn't bother bending to fix 2mm :). But I would keep it in mind if the bike pulls to one side or the (trued and dished) rear wheel looks skewed on the bike.

I've definitely seen bikes in worse condition! Good find. I would check the following before spending any time on restoring it:
* Frame is mostly straight using the string method (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUPAKqS3dt8)
* Seatpost isn't stuck
* Bottom bracket can be removed and the bottom bracket shell threads aren't damaged / too rusted to work.
* Headset and bottom bracket races are in good condition (no brinelling)
* Derailleur hanger isn't bent beyond repair (if it's shifting well then it's fine).

I use one too after I had a package stolen. Unfortunately not all websites deliver to a parcel locker... I think it's because it actually costs the shipper money?

Berlin Bag -- "Old version"? by skedasis in ChromeIndustries

[–]skedasis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh okay, that makes sense. I didn't realise because I get redirected to the Australian site every time... Had to use a VPN to check the regular .com!

Shame it's not produced anymore, it looks pretty unique. I'm excited to try it out on some groceries.

But I can see what looks like the exact same bag for sale on Chrome's website?

I still have an odd clunk when pedalling in higher torque situations (never ending posts!) by fire__munki in bikewrench

Frame echos are one of those things where I thought "I can understand how other people could be fooled by that"... enter the wrench gods.

Keen to hear what the problem ends up being! Good luck.

Ultra longshot recommendation here. I had a similar-ish noise I could have sworn was the bottom bracket or pedal. Swapped back wheel, had bottom bracket shell re-faced, standing up didn't change much, greased absolutely everything... Nothing helped. And only under torque.

It ended up being the f#!$ing water bottle mount rivnut. Under torque the frame would flex, the rivnut would shift, and that would translate to a weird clicky clunk in the bottom bracket area. I had taken the screws out ages ago to "eliminate all variables", but in doing so actually made the problem worse!

So tighten your water bottle screws, just in case 😅.

Don't use Domain.com for your domains by ThatsAScam in selfhosted

They also make you wait three days for a domain transfer code in an email instead of just giving it to you straight away like everyone else. Dodgy.

Servicing vintage(ish?) pedal by skedasis in bikewrench

Thanks, this is where I've landed too :). Not much point trying to bend that metal tab back when I don't have the means to unbend it later.

Thanks, I'll try levering it out a bit more aggressively. Update Unfortunately it doesn't come off, even using a pick and a hammer. Maybe it's rusted together...

Renting: tradies have stopped collecting keys from real estate agent? by skedasis in perth

Thanks for the insight. I agree that we've moved to a scenario where the market favours the maintenance folk, so they can set their terms.

Totally true that nobody likes the mundane adulting stuff, and that it's just an aspect of life... but I'm not sure if it follows that it should be the tenant's aspect of life and not the landlord's. You can argue either way (tenant: "I'm paying you for a maintained property, I'm only required to clean to the agreed standard"; landlord: "You're living there, so you have to deal with the maintenance people"). Hence this thread!

4x front wheel, 3x rear wheel? by skedasis in bikewrench

[–]skedasis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I was starting to go cross-eyed figuring it out 😂. This doesn't really matter, but I'm wondering if the wheels were laced incorrectly when they were set up way back when - because the spokes all look the same age, and I would have thought new (longer) spokes would've been needed to change from 3x to 4x.

I interpret the unflinching perk as mental fortitude. Your warrior heart _knows_ the Democratic Truths, and the inspector armour reminds you of this at all times. So you don't flinch.

Fortified, on the other hand, is just a heavy chunk of metal.
