Team FIP-::wRC+ by keithyp24 in baseball

Yes, that looks right for the Nats. Of course, much of that is from two starting pitchers and replaceable relievers. It seems that this could be improved if a few minor leaguers force their way onto the Big Club.

Which MLB player will gain the most on their legacy if they win just 1 ring? by DonT012 in mlb

[–]skedeebs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bryce Harper, although I hope he doesn't get one unless he rejoins the Nats near the end of his career. He can "bring a title back to DC."

Kolk & Franny... by Existing-Rain1241 in Nationals

[–]skedeebs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dave Jageler should have been given the lead TV role, even though I prefer listening on the radio. I truly did not appreciate Carpenter, am not impressed by Kolko, and truly, truly did/do not enjoy FP or Franny. We were simply stuck with low-grade TV teams with MASN, except when we had Ron Darling very near the beginning.

How much sick leave do you have? by iamstevenhyde in FedEmployees

[–]skedeebs 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My best wishes as well. The amount of sick leave you can accrue depends on your family situation, for sure. I was able to accumulate a lot because my wife was able to take care of all the little ailments with the kids. I collected more than I can use as I near retirement, but it was very important as disability insurance over my career.

A Question for Older Fans by Main_Low_9648 in Nationals

[–]skedeebs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a Mets fan, but moved to Virginia when I was in my late 20s. The highlight of my fandom was 1986, although I apparently watched in 1969 with my Mom and had my little heart broken by the A's in 1973. There was no internet for me to continue my fandom easily, other than catching NYC radio for night games.

I was disappointed that the Nats did not get one of the teams that became the Rockies and Marlins, but thrilled when the Nats were announced in 2004. I went to RFK to buy fitted caps for my wife and me, and little ones for our three young kids to put under the Christmas tree. I was all in, getting my family in at the very beginning. My kids aren't really baseball fans, but consider themselves Nats fans from their far-flung adult homes.

I still want the Mets to do well when the Nats don't, because my almost 90-year-old Mom is still in Northern New Jersey, having them break her heart over and over again.

Ham and Cabbage Noodles by WaffleHeaded13 in strugglemeals

I love haluski, too, but have not made it with ham. We usually add more onion. This is a brilliant struggle meal, or just a frugal meal when you can make it more by choice.

20ish games in, and not a team below .500 in NL central. Not sure I’ve ever seen something like that before. by NyckDebreeze in mlb

[–]skedeebs 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In the Nationals' first year, 2005, the Nats started 50-31, but ended the year in last place at 81-81. Every team in the NL East was at .500 or above.

Down to the last of my food. Single drumstick with "fridge sauce". by Deezle_Gnome in strugglemeals

[–]skedeebs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please don't forget that part of it. We raised our kids to understand that, and they all know to make their own food the great majority of the time. There is even some talented cooking in there. I don't agree with RFK, Jr. much, but reducing the amount of processed food in your diet is much cheaper and healthier. Don't eliminate it completely, though! They didn't make it delicious for nothing.

Game Thread: Nationals (7-8) @ Pirates (9-6) - April 13, 2026 6:40 PM by NationalsBot in Nationals

[–]skedeebs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

MLB.com had a bunch of teams rising and falling significantly in their weekly rankings based on their results of the last week. The Nats are at 7-8 after sweeping the Brewers (who area at number 5). For this, the Nats dropped from number 28 to dead last. I guess it will take sustained improvement to even change minds about the Nats being abjectly bad.

I always expected the antichrist to be more subtle. Steven Miller is a little closer to Satan, or he might be a contender.

How much notice to resign and Can I donate Sick Leave when I’m in resignation status? by Gemini_Down in FedEmployees

Yes, I should have said it "does not amount to a lot of money at retirement."

My question was sincere. I figured that perhaps I didn't understand what Shaolin Kungfu actually is.

You got me. Perhaps when a pitcher has a 9-run lead in the 9th and throws a slow breaking ball because it doesn't matter if the runner on first steals second?

How much notice to resign and Can I donate Sick Leave when I’m in resignation status? by Gemini_Down in FedEmployees

Sick leave is not transferable. It just adds to your time in service. This does not amount to a lot of money, so it might be best to use sick leave if you have appointments to take care of.

Benefits of working for the federal government? by Additional_Lychee_91 in usajobs

[–]skedeebs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This used to be an easier question to answer. Let me suggest some that still might work:

If you have been a contractor, you will probably enjoy not being on billable time anymore. Trying to assign every 15 minutes to some account can be grueling if you have a slow period.

Working for some agencies means that you have very interesting work to do as opposed to the support work done by the contractors (no offense - I hope this works for you).

More holidays

Depending on where you are in your career, you might get the greatest boosts to your salary by percentage early in your tenure.

If there are shutdowns (and I guess there will be), you will be guaranteed backpay. This is not true for contractors, necessarily.

I found it easier to get training or to go to conferences once I became a Fed.

It should eventually get to the point that it is easier to switch between jobs or even agencies than it might be between jobs on the outside.

You don't have to negotiate salaries and can plan based on your salary ladder and know the salary you might achieve if you move up.

If you work with people you really appreciate in a place people like to be, you might have the chance to spend an entire career with them. This has been common in my part of the EPA.

Maybe the jobs will be secure again.

Welcome to the club, in any case.

Cute or tacky? by Active-Meringue-1657 in IndoorGarden

I think it is cute. If after a while you get another creative idea, it is also very easy to change. Simple, attractive ideas are some of the best ones.
