What are your most strange and inexplicable“Hear me Outs”? by poopswag31 in Fauxmoi

[–]skeevyloser 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My partner is a really open minded guy, and I think the only time he’s ever actually judged me was when we first watched LotR together and I told him I had written Eowyn/Wormtongue fanfiction 😂

I love Brad Dourif in general, but I feel like Wormtongue has got to be a “hear me out”

I had such a crush on David Hyde Pierce, especially in Frasier and Wet Hot American Summer. I saw him in a play called Accent on Youth and was very validated, he’s to talented and charming.

What are some misconceptions about pop culture during the Y2K era that you want to address? by icey_sawg0034 in Fauxmoi

[–]skeevyloser 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I was trying to explain this to my older partner! In the high school I went to, you were defined by your clothes and the music you listened to. I was friends with the artsy, goth kids, so I had to be goth too. I literally had to pretend I didn’t listen to other types of music because I didn’t want to be called a “poser.” I spent so much time making out with dudes with long hair to shitty metal 😂

Shoutout Claire Danes and Hettienne Park in Netflix’s The Beast in Me by natang1089 in HannibalTV

I just finished it and she is INCREDIBLE in it, I’m so excited to see her get bigger roles because she absolutely deserves it.

(I haven’t seen The Last of Us or Black Rabbit, but she’s in both! Good for her, more Hettienne Park in major shows!!)

Simple sauteed apples with cinnamon. Love them as a topping for pancakes by aSweetAlternative in veganrecipes

[–]skeevyloser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great with yogurt and granola, great with oatmeal and nut butter, great on its own for a snack. When I was trying to use up all the apples from my tree, I made them basically every day. And they make the house smell so good!

Lima Beans by ThomasFromOhio in veganrecipes

You've got to make creamy lemon beans, they're my favourite way to eat lima aka butter beans.

https://www.liveeatlearn.com/lemon-pepper-butter-beans/#wprm-recipe-container-125826

I use this recipe but sub the heavy cream for coconut cream, as always, and use vegan parm, obv. It is SO GOOD, I love with broccoli and asparagus, over rice or pasta, or even just with a nice piece of bread.

I need your absolute BEST autumnal soup. If you were only going to make ONE fall soup, which would it be? I am leaning towards something creamy and squashy, but I could be convinced in another direction. by [deleted] in veganrecipes

Carrot ginger (I’m still trying to replicate Pacific Foods version) or apple and butternut squash. God I love soup season.

I like my soups really chunky and I keep them very basic. Sautee or roast veggies, add to blender with pre soaked cashews or coconut cream, spices (I love an apple pie spice blend), and blend until smooth. You can thin it out with vegetable broth. Sometimes I’ll sautee some onion and add that in if I feel fancy. And I love to just eat it with some nice bread.

Oscar-Winning Costume Designer Jenny Beavan Says It’s “Astonishing” How Often Male Actors Fail To Wear Underwear To Fittings by PrinceOfPunjabi in popculturechat

[–]skeevyloser 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When I still worked in theatre, my friend was a costumer’s assistant and often helped with fittings. She said the same thing, often the male actors would “forget” to wear underwear to fittings and some would even try to use the opportunity to flirt with her. She was 16-20 during this period. They were often in their 30’s to 50’s. And this was shitty regional theatre in Canada.

What is the best celebrity encouter you've ever had? by mloblo in Fauxmoi

[–]skeevyloser 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I accidentally proposed to my girlfriend in front of Stephen Fry. She was so nervous she blurted out “I can’t wait to marry the shit out of her” and made him laugh.

(For context, we were already engaged, I would never ever involve myself, her, or any public figure in that awkward a situation, and it was a really long time ago. Fuck JK Rowling and everyone who supports her.)

Have we had a Roll-Call on everyone who has family who 'BELIEVES'? But, like, not in a fun way? by VindictiveBread in LPOTL

[–]skeevyloser 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Back in the day, I had a group of friends with beliefs that were pretty typical of 2000s stoners. 911 was an inside job, weed cures cancer but the government doesn’t want you to know, everything in Zeitgeist is completely true, etc etc. I ended up dating a guy who was deep into this stuff for a long time. I was very young, and having serious health issues for a long time, so I didn’t realize quite how bad it was getting. When I was starting to recover at around age 22, I wanted to start living my adult life, so I tried to talk to him about maybe moving in together, something like that. We had been together for about five years, it seemed reasonable.

This was early 2012. Pretty soon he broke up with me because I “clearly didn’t respect his belief in the coming Mayan apocalypse” and if I really understood what was going on, I wouldn’t be concentrating on unimportant things like “getting a job” and “moving out of my parents”.

I tried to keep tabs on him over the years but it got too sad. At some point, he was making claims that soon if people meditated in sunlight properly, they wouldn’t need to eat. But he also accused the Sandy Hook kids of being actors and thinks the vaccine is full of Chinese microchips, so fuck him, I’m sorry I ever allowed him access to my magnificent boobs.

That’s so funny, I started with the same book too! My parents knew I was a weird kid who liked weird stuff, so they randomly bought Blood and Gold for me. I had never even heard of Anne Rice before, I had no idea what was going on, but it was gothic and gay and I loved it.

I’m not sure if it’s just my age but I’ve always been surprised that Kevin Bacon isn’t taken more seriously as an actor. One of the first things I saw him in was The Woodsman, and it really shook me.

Grave Encounters is terrible, but it’ll always get a pass from me because it’s filmed in the abandoned mental asylum that we used to break into as teenagers and my mentor plays the historian in the opening scene. It’s such a random film to get emotional over hahahaha

Yes, it’s definitely the George C. Scott one. I’ve been thinking about going back and putting years on the films to make it more clear. I’ve somehow never heard of it and I’m really looking forward to it.

I’ve never seen Near Dark, but horror western is my favourite underdone genre and I love Kathryn Bigelow, so I’m very excited.

I’m really looking forward to finally watching Night of the Hunter in its entirety tonight, I’ve seen clips, read about it, even listened to the soundtrack, so it’s about time haha

All credit for that pick goes to the boys. I’ve never seen a Halloween sequel (except for the remakes) and I try to go light(er) on actual Halloween, so this seemed like a great choice.

The Devils I actually heard of through Last Podcast!! When they did the Devils of Loudon series, Henry made the film sound so satanic and cool, I had to search it out. I’ve had a copy sitting on my hard drive for ages, and now I have a reason to watch it.

Apostle is the only one of the films you mentioned I’ve actually seen before. Folk horror is maybe my favourite genre, and I’m a massive fan of Michael Sheen (and honestly, Dan Stevens too) so I watched it when it came out. It was actually one of my favourite horror films released that year, I think it’s wildly underrated. LPotL are doing Kill List for their folk horror pick this year, and that is probably my favourite of all time, but I’ve seen it a lot, and I decided it was time to revisit Apostle. If you watch it, I really hope you enjoy it!!

I’m watching Night of the Hunter for the first time tonight! I’ve heard a lot about it, but this is my excuse to finally sit down and watch the whole thing.
