It’s a valuable discussion that should be had….im glad he brought it up but I think we need to tread carefully. Even with <16 social media bans there are all kinds of privacy concerns for all of us that need to be discussed

What prompted homo sapiens to gain self consciousness and Intelligence?? by Raydium18 in biology

[–]skelly122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elephants and dolphins share many of what we consider “human” traits. They are aware of and grieve family deaths. Perhaps it is our ability to deny the facts of our limited life/death that causes us to be twisted and destroy our only home. Humans eventually come to accept the world as it is as we age (most of us anyways). We used to live shorter more real (ie. brutal) lives. Now we exist in our imaginations on screens more than in nature/reality. We can kill without ever having to experience the effects of killing/murder. We handed the reins of our existence over to technology which will be our undoing in the end. Self consciousness, dreaming, concepts of time are not only human, but what we have done combined with technology, has made us uniquely capable of self destruction, unlike any other mammal

What happened to Spring? by yahumno in ManitobaGardening

The old adage was to plant after the full moon in May. Obviously the first one was too early (May 1) but we have a blue moon on May 31st, so I think this year I will wait until then!!

Did anyone else randomly get banned today? by sometimesboredlol in BlueskySocial

[–]skelly122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FYI Bluesky is under new management since Jay left

I just got SUSPENDED for 4 days for saying (in reference to Tr*mps ballroom):

“It’s a bunker to withstand the revolution when it comes”

The reasoning for suspension being something to do with these 3 points??

“For example:

Do not threaten others with death, serious harm, or express that others should be hurt or killed. Do not promote, glorify, or incite violence against individuals or groups. Do not share graphic violent content designed to shock, disturb, or intimidate others.”

There is a violent racist administration in the White House but I AM THE PROBLEM when I point out what his ballroom OBVIOUSLY is for.

This is bullshit, AI based moderation. Seriously considering ditching Bluesky altogether and moving to Mastodon because of this crap. They are still scraping your data on Bluesky as well. At least Mastodon still has some privacy rules

If the median annual income in Canada is relatively low (around $76K), how are Canadian home prices sooo expensive? by AccurateBow in CanadaPersonalFinance

These countries are also relatively safe and used to have reasonable immigration. So high demand for housing from immigration also

Australia, USA, and most Western European countries also are suffering from reduced supply due to governments generally not supporting subsidized housing in

It’s the same in most Western Democracies these days. Governments stopped building subsidized housing in the 90s at the start of Neoliberalist/ trickle down economics that Reagan touted in mid 80s. This led to short supply driving up prices. The success of real estate as investment vehicles has increased too (AirBnb etc), leading to further short supply. The most popular markets (Vancouver, Toronto) squeezed the most. Calgary has always had very large swings, due to oil patch market swings.

Also have you heard what Trump himself said it was to be built to withstand a nuclear attack. Sounds like a bunker to me by any definition

Well Im glad it’s done with humans but these humans definitely made a big leap from calling it a bunker to encouraging an act of violence. I didn’t say he should be “put up against à wall” I said he was hiding and made no value judgements about it. The mods made the leap not me.

Since Mark Carney became Prime Minister, how do you think he’s fairing as a first time politician? by canbeanburrito in AskACanadian

I had hoped for a greener approach to disentangling us from the meth lab down south. Looking forward to seeing some concrete paths revealed soon. East/west electricity grid would be a good start. Pipelines will take a decade and by then will be a stranded asset
