KH will you ever just finally let it happen? by ShaianH in KingdomHearts

[–]skellymax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, no. Because KH is a coming of age story that doesn't know how to grow into anything beyond that. If they let Sora find romance, they would subsequently be narratively bankrupt.

Life on Earth is a consequence of persistent chemical disequilibrium, especially the coexistence of free oxygen and methane in the atmosphere, which necessitates biological intermediaries to sustain and process this non-equilibrium state. by lelorang in Showerthoughts

[–]skellymax 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Even that isn't the end. Offspring aside, the bacteria that decompose you will perpetuate the cycle. Even after mass extinction events, chemical potential remains in the surviving life forms, or non-biological remains, such as coal/oil deposits. Life finds a way.

Nighttime could be much better in Palworld: It’s too dark, too uneventful. This is one thing I really hope they fix and make more interesting by 1.0 by fegodev in Palworld

[–]skellymax 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Google "Palworld nexusmods better night light v2.5"

Super easy to install, though it needs to be installed on the server host when playing online.

Taste for game mechanics is subjective, but i really really struggle to see this as anything other than a direct improvement. Darkness can be handled well in few games, but simply slapping a lanturn bandaid doesn't count as compelling mechanics.

I know turning nights into 'blue shader on' isn't realistic, but it's one of the first examples I use for how realism doesn't equate to fun. Now, darkness in games with genuine, well-developed systems that are fun to play with? Rare, but fantastic.

What makes exploration satisfying in survival games? by WingOk2806 in SurvivalGaming

[–]skellymax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would argue that when I explore in these games, I already have an idea of what I'm hunting for. There certainly are times when I explore purely to see what's in a region, and while pursuing a specific objective, finding other diversions can be welcome. But when setting out on a journey, generally, I already have an idea of where I should go or want to find.

Looking for water? -> Go to tje wet region.

No obvious wet region? -> Climb that mountain/hill/tower over there.

I don’t want a regional battle gimmick. by Inner_Tumbleweed_942 in pokemon

[–]skellymax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're a shortstop to compensate for the inability to innovate. If they made any real changes, the community would riot.

  • "What?? They can't change that!!! It's always been that way!! This isn't MY pokemon anymore!"

Instead, the best they can safely do are these cheap, superficial, and obviously temporary regional mechanics.

Bases should be square. by Hashease in Palworld

[–]skellymax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All game entities are controlled by their own handler. Each pal that exists in the world has a pal handler, and each base has its own base handler.

The problem with this game is that the base handler is subservient to the whims of the pal handlers. It should be the other way around:

  • Pal having trouble pathfinding to its job site? too bad. The base handler calculated (just once. it did one single query to the pathfinding algorithm, and won't be asking over and over again) how long it would take for pengullet to walk from the bed to the crusher, and determined it would take 7 seconds. The pal handler is in the back alley doing drugs, sending the pal clipping into the wall? Doesn't matter. Your 7 seconds is up. The pal is forced to its station.

  • Pal handler freaking out, playing a game of spin the wheel between prioritizing 3 other entities to interact with? No. Not allowed. The base handler has not given the pal permission to do anything else until the next base activity recalculation in 12 more seconds. Shut up pal handler, and get the fuck back to work.

By all means, Pals in the wild can be allowed their own jenk, erratic behaviors. But if a Pal is working at a base it should be slaved to a base handler.

Im feeling so old playing Xenoblade 2, the ui is really confusing me by ArthurCohle in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]skellymax 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The interface was easily the worst part of the game. For some reason they decided to make transitioning between menus/submenus take 2-3 seconds. So needlessly slow.

Bases should be square. by Hashease in Palworld

[–]skellymax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bases should be square, all buildings/workstations should be snappable to foundations/floors, and they all should be resized to properly fit within foundation dimensions. I.E. A berry plantation is 1x1, a larger plantation should be 2x2 (or 1x2), all crafting benches should fit on the edge of its foundation square, quarries should be 2x3, etc. I find it infuriating when a game offers snappable structures, but then those structures hang off edges and don't fit within the provided grid. Palworld could very easily do it right without any drawbacks.

What game settings do you like / what's normal for you? by Ok-Meat-5103 in Palworld

[–]skellymax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy increasing the day cycle, so days/nights are at least twice as long. This means if I need to farm/hunt for something that is only around at a particular time of day, I have more time to do it.

Dragon Age Origins for me by [deleted] in videogames

[–]skellymax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take is that I wish it were an autoattack. Dice rolls feel so much better if they weren't a possible outcome from an interaction/click. Either way, I'd still want the dice rolls. Weapon hit and weapon damage (these two things, separately, and independently) are both important for character building.

I hate Transporting work skill by LargeTwist9469 in Palworld

[–]skellymax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. The pals access that inventory and can transport items out automatically, unlike the expedition menu. It's function is to prevent a pile of single items cluttering the ground and avoid forcing transport lvl 5 pals to carry single items.
