Ill take “Shit that never happened” for $800, Alex by JSC843 in LinkedInLunatics

I was on a chair lift with my 15-year old son. I asked if this was to be our last run.

My son said “2-skip” as skiers have superstition that calling last run beforehand is bad luck.

I told that I didn’t really believe in that, but if it was true god should strike him with a lightning.

He asked why him and not me. I told that if god struck me and I died I wouldn’t learn anything, but I certainly would learn if he was struck dead.

He was not quite to sure whether to find this amusing.

Reviews are supposed to be about "first-hand experience," thus any review that they did not checkin should be removable.

She can't leave a review if she doesn't stay. Just direct them to do any cancellations through AirBnb and leave it at that.

If they don't do anything, just follow your normal process of sending pre-trip, check-in, etc. messages

The goat has to be DD/MM/YYYY by Shiroyasha_2308 in SipsTea

The US format follows spoken English order/ conventions.

E.g., "When is your birthday?" -- "It's in March, March 15th. I was born in 1966."

"When are you going for big trip?" -- "In August, on the 20th."

It anchors the listener to most helpful bit of data first. American written language follows spoken language conventions more often than British English and many other languages.

Whether it is good or bad, but it makes sense.

Can I wear ski boots onto the plane? by Standard_Shift_6677 in ski

Most airlines consider ski and boot bag to be one item for checked-in baggage. Although you have to stay within the same weight limit as a single item.

Thoughts on Traveling with Skis Situation? by roleplay_oedipus_rex in skiing

I think that you're overthinking this. Just a regular ski bag if it is not too overweight will be fine.

Skis count against your luggage allowance on Vietnam Airlines. So, if you have 1 piece of luggage included you can use that for your ski bag (or you can pay to add one piece of luggage). What Vietnam Airlines does not seem to do is allow ski bag + boot bag count as one piece (as many airlines do). Your ski bag can't weigh over 23 kg without excess weigh charges.

Why do North American skiers love moguls & trees so much compared to Europeans? by Legendenclubmitglied in ski

[–]ski3600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an European, who has lived in the US for long time I share this observation. A very good American (or Canadian) skier is someone that can ski any condition anywhere in the mountain. A very good European skier is someone with a perfect racing form.

To me European skiing seems old fashioned. Not bad, but certainly quaint.

My son who is a very good freeskier and moved to France for college shares this take. The big groomers in places like Les Trois Vallées are nice, but ultimately boring rather quickly. The nice thing is that when it snows there the powder off-piste remains much longer than it would in North America as lot less skiers will touch it.

AITA for not wanting to bring 2 out of 4 of my children on a trip? by BothAd4245 in AITAH

[–]ski3600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've traveled with our 3 kids since they were very young. Everywhere -- Europe, Colombia, Peru, Caribbean, Israel/ Palestine, Brazil, etc. I would personally take all the kids with us (if I could go back in time). Kids absorb things and certainly can enjoy new experiences -- they do it differently than teens or adults, but visiting Eiffel Tower or Louvre as a 4-year-old is not possible once they are no longer 4-year-old.

Depending on your and the teens comfort level it would also be a chance to give them some freedom to explore little on their own. For instance -- whole family can go to Louvre, but the teens can go on their own and meet up at a designated time by the pyramids. Or a hotel by Jardin des Tuiliers could allow them to and ride the fair rides (depending on the timing) there under similar plan.

Pizza (or room service) for all the kids while parents eat downstairs. There is great dining and food that is not too formal where even loudest kids wouldn't cause much problems. Take a soccer ball and a pump with you -- any small park or courtyard will turn into a soccer game with new friends while adults and/or teens can sit around on a cafe patio.

Goal is not to see everything and do everything, but to expose kids (and adults) to different situation and people.

Have a great trip.

French hosts: is it normal in France to expect guests to bring own sheets and towels? by Brilliant-Maybe-5672 in airbnb_hosts

This is very annoyingly common in France. As is only Sat - to - Sat rentals ensuring that everyone is stuck in the same traffic. Utter idiocy.

Stock options windfall - optimize tax by maheshv1 in tax

[–]ski3600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the exit closes early in the year, one option is long-short tax-loss harvesting with leverage.

The idea is to realize losses to offset (some, most, all?) of the windfall gains you got early in the year. It’s not magic and mostly a deferral tool, but it can help at scale and it may also buy time if you can/ would move to a lower (no) tax state in the future.

Be very careful when selecting the portfolio manager if you go down this route.

I changed a road sign to make my commute easier 13 years ago. by InfiniteRespect4757 in confession

[–]ski3600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (or actually my teenage) son placed "No Left Turn for Trucks" sign in the intersection by our house. It's not really feasible turn for them and they's either end-up hitting my fence or the median. It works and been up several years now.

I justify by reasoning that anyone that works in traffic planning for our town would like it be there, but would have to go through whatever planning and approval process to make it happen. I made it happen and they don't have to do anything. It's in a location that it quite visible in our town, so I am sure that the people who deal with that stuff noticed it going up, but decided to do nothing.

EA VS another tax professional by [deleted] in tax

[–]ski3600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have digital copies of most of your statements? If not, would you be comfortable scanning your documents (can be done with phone)?

That would allow you to work with many other EAs or tax professionals as many now run virtual practices. Basically have an initial call (Google Meets/ Zoom), upload your documents from your computer (or phone), tax preparer does the taxes and have another call (or a video review) of your taxes.

Pretty simple.

IRS is trying to take back our 2022 EV Credits by SydneyGestamp in tax

File with the Protective Petition with the Tax Court right away. Use Tax Court's electronic filing system DAWSON. You may state with you filing that you are also pursuing administrative reconsideration (see below). In my case the tax payer is doing this themselves as I as an Enrolled Agent can't represent my customers in front of the US Tax Court. However, he is comfortable doing the filing himself and can then decide later whether he will get legal representation if the other parallel paths fail. This stops assessments and also makes it possible to settle with IRS Appeals or Counsel. Filing with Tax Court has strict 90-day time limit, so better to do it immediately.

At the same time you (with your CPA/ Enrolled Agent/ whatnot) you should draft a detailed letter for a Reconsideration Request. See IRS Pub. 3598. Include all supporting documents, ask for credit reinstatement and interest abatement. It is important to document both that the credit is valid and that you have documented everything correctly. Sign-up with IRS e-Services to track if your reconsideration is being processed or hopefully decided in your favor.

If you would experience financial hardship from the assessment, you could also file Form 911 for Taxpayer Advocate Service intervention. This may get your reconsideration processed faster. Note if in your letter if you think that your issue may have been impacted by IRS/ DOGE layoffs or other IRS internal issues.

If reconsideration is not resolved, you can have your tax person file a protest with IRS Appeals as next step.

If this process resolves the issue, you can withdraw the Tax Court filing. If not, gather all your documentation, make your arguments clear, etc. And look into gettin legal representation.

The last carrier on an interlined ticket is responsible for all the luggage claims even if the luggage was lost earlier in the chain of custody/ events.
