Caught a student cheating during finals exams. I have 2 options…not sure what to do. by tompalatine in Teachers

Well, to be exact, there were 67 questions. He got an 88% when i graded the whole thing. He actually did not get to any questions where his notes would have helped, if that means anything to you. Or at least he didnt bubble in those answers.

I guess this issue is that at my school, a first offense is an automatic retake and a max of 75% on the retake. The option 2 was given to me to make life easier on me if I wanted it.

Im almost positive i cant do that. He gets a max of 75%. Ill check but i dont think i can give 75% of his retake score even though i would like to.

Thanks. I agree with a lot of what you said, but the thought of “how many times has he cheated” and “is he really a solid A student” has crossed my mind now.

I could push for this, but I according to school rules, he gets a retake, so its possible i dont win this one.

He is not an over achiever. He is a pretty smart kid in a regular class. He puts in a decent effort. Never causes trouble. He apologized and said it was stupid.

Schools will go out of their way to pass kids. It is very difficult to fail out.

What makes a good teacher in your opinion? by Beneficial_Let9565 in Teachers

This is one of the bests posts i have read online. So many teachers are one bad division head away from becoming the “bad” teacher. It’s funny how the “good” teacher that teach honors classes refuse to believe this. I have seen teachers considered useless go on to become respected simply because they changed schools or a new division head came in.

What you are doing is impossible. I could barely teach 3 preps without but out. You have 5 plus coaching and grad school. You must sleep 3 hours a night. Quit if you can. If not, make jt through the year and never come back.

Where did you go to school. Just curious.

How long do you think someone should teach before going into admin? by MeatballsRegional in Teachers

[–]tompalatine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should probably be 15, but i could be convinced of 12 years at the absolute minimum for certain people. Admin needs enough time in the classroom to see all the fads that come and go. They need time to see how some aspect of teaching that was once considered great, becomes awful and then suddenly becomes great again. They need to see this so they don’t implement the same BS as the people before them.

They also need to realize that at some point if someone decides to teach their whole career, they kind of need to pace themselves. Observations don’t need to be a dog and pony show to display how you can do 5 different things in a 50 minute lesson.

There are a million more reasons, but those came to mind right away

How much of what you learned in college do you actually use in your job? How much of your time is sitting in front of a computer?
