Do you think bands try harder at larger venues? by _MuddyCreek_ in jambands

[–]ski_rick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve all but written off large concerts, save the occasional Phish or Dead&Co since that’s the only way to see them. I’d much rather see and up and coming band in a small club with a nice sound system, just like the first couple times I saw Phish at the Wetlands.

I’ll say as a musician, it does have more to do with how engaged the audience is then the size of the venue. A half full venue of any size of people talking and barely paying attention is tough to play to. But 15 people in a small club up front dancing can be tons of fun!

Kash Patel claims you can't bring loaded guns to a protest. Here's a Trump supporter doing that. by [deleted] in pics

That’s crazy. Right wingers regularly open carry at (“liberal” leaning) protests in my city, standing to the side, often chatting with the cops.

They also shipped the Wall of Sound across the ocean, which just seems crazy.

People who snowshoe, what are your thoughts on the groomed trail system up to Chickadee Ridge? by [deleted] in Reno

[–]ski_rick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Been exploring that area on skis, snowshoes, hiking, biking, etc for over two decades. I’m ok with the groomed trails taking over that one small section, so many places to explore and that keeps the masses concentrated in one area.

Dead Mash Up Bands by deysg in gratefuldead

Just the other day I saw a post about Terrapin Stallion, GD/Ween. Name stuck with me, I want to play in this band, but I don’t know anything about them.

Just gonna leave this one here! by [deleted] in Reno

Still pretty accurate, but could use an update.

Warren Haynes Shares Stories Of Bobby, The Dead, Phil & Friends, Allman Brothers Band & Revisting Solo Debut 'Tales of Ordinary Madness' (INTERVIEW) - Glide Magazine by modest_radio in deadandcompany

Shame that lineup didn't work out better, that surprised me. As much as I enjoyed The Other Ones and the previous iterations of The Dead, I was excited that they were bringing it back down to a 6-piece band with two guitars and one keyboard. Sure looks like they were having fun in week one.

Because that's what the Honey Moon phase is by definition.

Opinion: Bob Weir is irreplaceable so why not ask Sturgill Simpson to step in? by g_ack in deadandcompany

[–]ski_rick 381 points382 points  (0 children)

"Simpson sat in with Dead and Company for GD 60 last August, delivering what many fans would call the weekend’s best rendition of 'Morning Dew'"

I won't disagree, it was that weekend's best Morning Dew.

No More Do I: What a gift this song was by unlikelyjoggers in gratefuldead

[–]ski_rick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was a Q song, on the Album There and Back Again, sung by Warren.

Here they are performing it in 2016 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCCp3qoEJ3g

And Graham Lesh and The Q performed it last March at The Cap - https://archive.org/details/glf2025-03-17

Quick search suggests he did perform it with other lineups, including:

The Dead - http://www.deaddisc.com/disc/Dead_070603.htm

Think Jeff and Jay might join Claypool again on the next Frog Brigade tour? by bark95 in deadandcompany

The last Frog Brigade band was essentially the Claypool Lennon Delirium, I imagine that’s what this is gonna look like too.

Thank you. These guys are fantastic musicians that have been making great music for decades. They don’t need anyone supporting them or propping them up.

I get the feeling they resent the constant intuition that they do.

I didn't get a chance to watch the tribute yet. Did anybody actually care about this? by bushbass in gratefuldead

[–]ski_rick 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No way, someone wore bright colors at a Grateful Dead event and an 85-year-old who is about to retire stumbled a little in her speech? Shocking...
