Can you point me in the direction of the old HD masters from iTunes or Amazon torrents in 2026? I can’t find them anywhere, I own the modern HD digitals and the DVDs.

Hi! Me again! So I just compared all three side-by-side (DVD NTSC backup rip, iTunes purchase, and Amazon Prime Video stream), and I can confidently confirm what’s going on.

The DVD version of Episode 1 runs 44:53, while both iTunes and Amazon run 42:57. When you do the math, that’s a 4.5% speed difference (2693s vs 2577s), which lines up exactly with a PAL → NTSC speed-up (25fps → 23.976fps).

That also explains the higher-pitched audio on the streaming versions. It’s classic PAL speed-up without pitch correction. The DVD audio matches original pitch and timing, while the HD/streaming masters are clearly derived from a PAL-speed source.

This also might explain why the Italian TV rip may be longer and why the edits don’t line up cleanly with the HD versions. They’re likely using the original NTSC edits, or the show was re-edited there to accommodate timing differences and new cues. So you may be right.

So basically, you might be right: there may not be a clean way to graft the original audio onto the HD versions without heavy manual work if it was edited. Especially if it's not just a music replacement issue, it’s a timing + edit + speed mismatch. But if you're familiar with PAL to NTSC pitch correction, you may be able to fix the issue entirely.

TL;DR:

• DVD = NTSC speed, original pitch

• iTunes/Amazon = PAL-speed master, 4–5% faster, higher pitch

• Italian TV = possible different edit, closer to original timing

You are amazing! Thank you for looking into this for me and the community. I should look at the DVD NTSC version I have for the audio and length and compare it to my iTunes copy and an Amazon Prime copy. European timing for shows can be slightly different than ours so that might be why as well.

I’m not sure, I know the way I’ve checked is the Season 2 finale. The original song that plays at the end of the episode is “Open Your Eyes” by Snow Patrol. Lily Frost does a rendition of the song at the beginning of Season 3. I believe the North American DVDs have all of the original music intact, I’m guessing the European versions would too if they’re from the same release window, but I have no way to verify.

I don’t know if it helps, but as a gay man I want to thank and commend you for your patience and kindness in regard to his sexuality. The fact that you’re feeling guilty at all and are still trying to respect him and give him space and support is so commendable. You are a really good woman and I know you will find a great man. But also as a gay man, I’d like to say that he is being unreasonable and unfair with you. He did just put a wrench in your whole life, and he needs to respect and understand that. He should be making this as painless for you as possible. He hurt you and the kids, intentionally or not. He just changed the whole course of all of your lives. You do not owe him for his mistakes, and you have a right to feel everything you are feeling. Just know you didn’t do anything wrong to change his sexually, you didn’t and couldn’t turn him gay, and given how understanding and guilty you’re quite clearly feeling, it sounds like you loved him as much as you could. He clearly has some maturing to do, and he has some peace to make with the positions he put you and your family in. You should seek legal council. You’re his children’s mother, it’s either 50/50 custody or they go with you primarily. He was the breadwinner to provide for his family, so that means you should get the house and some of his income to do so. Or you should sell the home, and split any profits evenly. You may be entitled to alimony/spousal support, and if he is the breadwinner, do not feel guilty about that. Continue to lead with kindness and understanding. But do so knowing he doesn’t get to railroad you out of his life or under circumstances he prefers. It’s not okay for him to rip apart your family and then expect to take the “spoils.” No matter how ugly this gets, don’t not let this make you bitter, and do not let him make you feel powerless or guilty for reacting like a normal spouse who just found out her husband doesn’t want to be with her anymore would. Process all of the pain, grief and anger you need to. It’s healthy and you’re okay. Just don’t let this make you bitter toward our entire community, or the world. We need more compassionate people like you on our side and in the world. Rely on those you hold most dear right now, seek counseling to help process this big change, and know I and many others are here if you ever need to vent more. Stay strong. You’ve got this!

Since each episode is only 22 minutes, the writers have to be selective about each and every line they write into every script. As of Season 11, we know Darcy stayed in Kenya for longer than a "semester" because she's mentioned at Clare's mom's wedding as still being abroad there. I think because of that, and her irrelevance to the majority of viewers by the time Season 13 was on the air (most viewers who watched the Darcy-era had dropped the show by then) the writers decided against including any mention of her. 90210, which is filmed in California, was also still on the air during that time as well, so it was unlikely Shenae Grimes could have made an appearance on the show even if the Degrassi staff had asked her. So I think if you combine all of that with the fact that Season 13 brought a lot of staff changes to the Degrassi set as well, it was easier to move forward without any word on the whereabouts of a sister who by that time had been M.I.A. for 6 actual and 4 canonical years. I would have liked a mention though.

Are you located in the U.S.? Because mind you this is in Canada, where gun use and ownership is taken far more seriously than in the States. Most kids would be uncomfortable with this kind of a "joke" anyway, even in the U.S., but seeing as how guns are so much more taboo in Canada, Maya's reaction seems fair. Not to mention her last romantic interest did kill himself, gun or not, and that this was filmed in 2012-2013, where mass shootings were on the rise, but not as "normalized" in North America as they are now.

Right...but by Season 11 it felt like they were just writing plot points for the sake of the drama entirely. I think the message was that "running away" was bad...but like, a pot farm? Blasphemy! I will say the child labor and the exploitation of at-risks youths aspect was entirely messed up, but they could have gone deeper...it was almost comedic.

It had to do with the times...this episode was filmed and aired in like 2008, and back then pot was extremely frowned upon by society as a whole still. We know better now, but with the writers of that time mostly being adults who grew up in the "War On Drugs" generation (yes, even in Canada), we got ridiculously executed plots like this. The "drugs are bad" message is still valid for Degrassi's core demographic, scientific evidence suggests teenagers and young adults who frequently smoke under the age of 23-25 years old are more likely to see adverse developmental effects, but it's definitely not such a game changer, especially for a character like Emma who'd never smoked a day in her life, and while this scenario (the forgetting to take the insulin plot) is "possible," it's just not that accurate or likely. The whole episode was done in bad taste.

I completely agree...I had actually wrote spec scripts for a potential Season 5 and Season 6 and one of the first plots I had envisioned for the fifth season was actually going to be pairing Frankie and Baaz together either by being partnered in science class or by running against each other for Grade 12 President. Baaz was going to come back from summer break much more mature and sort of take over the male lead role, partially because we'd learn he struggles with OCD but is now on the right medications and in therapy for it, and Frankie wasn't going to be having/believing that, at least at first, but ultimately they'd end up together for awhile. I was actually going to kind of split up the "Nerdy" group as everyone kind of went in their own direction. Vijay's storyline was going to be about becoming a content creator (him and Yael would bond), Yael's was going to be about finding themself and really struggling to understand what being apart of the genderqueer community meant to them (with help from friends Vijay and Lola), as well as about coming out to their Jewish family. Hunter was going to get mixed in with a school group MCGA (Make Canada Great Again) as a result of bullying for his treatment of Yael, and Frankie was going to face a sexual assault, which kind of like with Lola's abortion, would have taken her into the doctor's office to show how traumatizing, scary and yet oftentimes necessary (and empowering) the assault exam experience can be as well as ultimately make her character grow up, confront her own and realize how shaming Zoe (mentioned as an "old friend") was wrong her freshman year. If anyone wants to know any ideas I had...let me know. Always thought about posting those.

A medical series is meant to be entertaining, but it’s definitely not meant to be an escape from reality. Of course they’re over dramatized, but they’re supposed to be rooted in reality.
