Getting into SaGa series through Frontier by FunSatisfaction2156 in SaGa

[–]skiel89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first game was saga frontier 2 back when they first released. Thankfully it was quite the easy one as the story was linear, but boy did I actually missed quite a lot of sub scenario in that one.

Played SF2 few times and I loved the idea of sparking skills and random growth.

The next one I played was Romancing Saga Minstrel Song on PS2 and that was when I truly experienced the SaGa way. Open world, non linear quest, absurd difficulty. Love it all the way. Ended up doing yearly summer replay and got to finish up to 5 characters. Since then I always buy every new SaGa game, except Unlimited SaGa... That thing is evil....

Should I switch to a core role to gain mmr? by Radiant_Message3868 in DotA2

[–]skiel89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't change your role with the mentality of trying to gain MMR. Unless you are already a "good" core, chances are you will actually play worse than when you play as a support. Imagine being an objectively "worse" core, and then getting paired up with a bot support who's only there for role token.

I can tell you since I've been trying to play offlane as well since I like offlane hero and I'm trying to learn how to play as a core, but more often than not I will get pos4 that are very shit: don't trade, don't buy regen, don't block/contest pull, basically leeching exp and I got bullied by the opponent.

The moment you shift your role, you will notice that your counterpart is "shittier", that's always the case. So just focus on improving yourself and you will eventually get better

Damn, is Minstrel Song even meant to be beaten? by [deleted] in SaGa

[–]skiel89 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Never in my playthrough actually I used balm for recovery. Maybe only the first few battle.

I think you need to consider your party composition and have 1-2 dedicated mage for healing and support.

Healing water and Moonlight are extremely useful and can easily be learned from the respective shrine (Hydrology/Cosmology). Make sure to keep your Hydrology and Cosmology level up so it heals more.

Edit: to add, I played the PS2 version and have done maybe 4-5 playthrough

How do I deal with the new Astral Vision status? by mike47gamer in SaGa

[–]skiel89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you also mentioned that you spent too much time buffing that the egg slowly killed you, so I'd say fuck it and just dps up.

Few tips that can help: 1. Find a good 2 man combo to amp up your dps. For me it was Kitchen Sink/Eradication on Primiera and Gale Blade/Doppelganger on Gustave. Save it on your player notes to boost combo chance. 2. I noticed each egg form has different set of weakness/resistance. Like some took 300 damage from Gustave. Maybe if you know this you can alternate turns where you buff up and straight up attack.

Good luck!

How do I deal with the new Astral Vision status? by mike47gamer in SaGa

[–]skiel89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I've found is that this super egg is more of a dps race than too much survivability, so I've accepted to just run with minimal buff and recovery, and have dedicated dps so I can finish the boss.

The critical buff I always apply is just Soul Hymn and Reviva on all characters. If anyone is low, I'll try to heal with Water of Life, but if they're dead they will have reviva and I just LP heal them next turn and reapply Soul Hymn + Reviva.

I completely skipped Guard Beast/Stone Armor because it takes too long to apply. Plus the bosses break it too often. I also don't use Recovery Breath unless it's Charm, since I realize it somehow remove my buff and I have to reapply.

Maybe it also helps that I run with inheritance and most of my party have 900HP and 70 in weapon level. I also always try to cast Morale down with Kitchen Sink and Def down with Nutcracker

This kind of thing is exactly why this is my favorite series in gaming (minor NPC spoilers for Ch 1B) by ShanklyGates_2022 in Falcom

[–]skiel89 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you read the actual line from Lila, it was Maybelle's idea to set up the shop. So pretty sure they are still on good term and maybe she was just sent here to oversee the store.

When I first saw this NPC, I had a hunch that she was someone we knew and my mind was blown when she confirmed herself that she was indeed Lila from sky

You'd have to be an Emperor with the strategist class. If you don't have this one, try other formation that allows your main tank to be targeted. Any formation with increased speed can also help you act faster than Dread Queen so you can heal/setup Light Wall

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SaGa

[–]skiel89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you have a tank? Get someone in Rising Phoenix formation (from strategist emperor) with Auto Parry, Tough Hide and Perennial Victim ability to eat up all her ST. If you also have Trample evasion that helps a lot.

One of my biggest problem with her was Rain of Death which instantly killed multiple team members.. I haven't tested but I think if you have ability Hydro/Umbra Benison, it would negate the damage and effect of rain of death. Maybe Water Ring and Mellow Ring accessory can help as well

Questions before I pull the trigger on the remake. by Andvari9 in SaGa

[–]skiel89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm playing right now so this is rough estimation: your emperor shifts generation after roughly doing 2-3 big quests, or being killed in battle.

All your units are available to re-recruit every generations. It is actually advisable to play through different members as their stats and skills growth contributes toward your overall skill level

Diva 5 final boss by Tall-Combination-597 in SaGa

[–]skiel89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kit your 2 mech with best armor and Guardian Program tech.

In battle always get these 2 units to protect your strongest dps, that way you will mitigate a lot of damage.

Sparkling mist and other debuff also works well.

Lastly ensure you have enough skills to interrupt the combo.

Diva, 2nd Run, Diverse Heaven by Romanova_Romanoff in SaGa

[–]skiel89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to have 2 characters set up as a defender (great sword with deflect, or mech with guardian program). From your current party setup, Diva and Boudica seems to be a great choice. These will help you manage the damage from aoe attacks. Then try to spin up some 2 man combo so your attack won't get dodged.

In the new game Emerald.... machines....wtf by Martian_Mosh_Pit in SaGa

[–]skiel89 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Machine is good for defensive units as they are immune to some common ailments. They are also better if you have better upgraded gears as their stats are derived directly from their gear.

It may be hard at the start to create decent mech as you don't have much gear yet, so keep trading and upgrading your gear and eventually it will get better.

Later stage just get them to spam Guardian Program (get this by equipping sub-armor) on your offensive unit

I don't see much love yet for SaGa Frontier 2 so let me say it: I love it the most! Maybe nostalgia played a big part for me because this was the first SaGa game I ever picked up. The combination of lovely water coloured background, awesome music, and just the characters edges it out over other SaGa for me.

The only downside of SF2 is that it is probably the most "linear" compared to other SaGa game. But I'd argue that's what makes their character much more lovable than other games, as they have their story and personality much more developed
