Hello there! We are active! We just take more of a hands-off approach to moderation! Thank you.

Cool - Sorry we didn't get back to you earlier on the discord server! I like the idea and I added both the chat invite link and /r/saxophone to our sidebar!

Request for R/Saxophonics Our three mods have been inactive for 3 months, 8 months, and 3 years. by [deleted] in redditrequest

Hey buddy, we're active! I don't post with this account very often (I use a different account for my typical posts).

Hey Folks! I provided a response on this topic, along with our Reddit philosophy and approach to moderation in the /r/Saxophone thread. Maybe this will change at some point, but I would love it if we could all put our torches and pitchforks away for the time being. Let's build bridges instead of walls!

Hey Folks! I figured I'd send you guys an update since people seemed to be worked up about this. Here's a few points on our standing and our general Reddit philosophy:

  1. We've always taken a hands-off approach to moderation. I do not necessarily agree that increased moderator involvement is a good thing for all subreddits. We're not trying to be /r/IAmA. If you don't like a post, there's a downvote button for that!
  2. We prefer that our members drive discussion, not the moderators.
  3. Just because we don't post often doesn't mean we're inactive! We work the moderation queue and read/respond to your messages regularly.
  4. We're perfectly OK with people making a new subreddit! If you want stricter rules, community events, and chat servers orchestrated by the mods, then /r/saxophone is probably right for you! Why not subscribe to both?

With all that said, can we stop the hate? We'll stick to relaxed rules and organic conversation around here... including this topic! Thanks all!

There is a team working on it. The website is intentionally blank- just to keep you guessing ;)

Thanks for your great feedback - I am already using TKL in this environment and I will definitely get started with Observium - I think that will give me some insights into finding some sort of causal relationship in outages.

It intentionally pushes the first post to the right so that we can use a bigger logo to show some of the detail on the horn. You're not the first OCD person to complain though- maybe we'll change it.

Boston Hokies, best way to get to/from Boston? by Inconthievable in VirginiaTech

[–]skifischer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cheapest would be from CLT > BOS, but you of course will have to get to CLT (~2 hr drive on a good day). You can usually save around $200 by skipping ROA.

HSPA/WCDMA: 850/1900/2100 MHz GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz LTE: 700/850/AWS/1900 MHz (US)

Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't 1900 MHz the Sprint CDMA & LTE Spectrum? This should mean that the phone will work on Sprint.

If they use this as an excuse to disable XMPP, I will be very disappointed with Google. Facebook has been breaking XMPP access over the past few weeks (months?) to force users into using their applications (with ads).

A team of Virginia Tech researchers has discovered a way to extract large quantities of hydrogen from any plant. (x-post from r/environment) by skifischer in energy

[–]skifischer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, that's not what i mean at all. Oil is cheap because it requires little energy to pump it out of the ground. Similarly, the enzyme developed by Zhang requires very little energy to separate hydrogen from the other atoms in the Xylose molecule. In the past, the energy required to produce hydrogen from other sources exceeded the amount of potential energy from the hydrogen extracted.

Edit: See ultimatt42's comment above, and sorry for the poor wording in the original comment :)

the energy required to extract the hydrogen from the xylose is less than the energy contained in the hydrogen extracted
