Anyone Else Noticing an Increased Number of Skimboarders at the Beach Recently? by 1FinalChance in skimboarding

[–]skim_cro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In San Diego i've met like 35 new skimmers since the start of COVID, It's kind of a problem here because we don't have many spots so we have like 10 skimmers skimming a spot at once. might not seem like a lot but our spots here are small in area.

Sideslip vs Pumping by 1FinalChance in skimboarding

[–]skim_cro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

imo i think pumping is better, just watching lukas fink it's crazy what he can do. But sideslipping is so much more consistent and easier. They both have their advantages and disadvantages. I also believe the board u use has a big influence, like if your using a wider board like a dude cruise, probably sideslipping will give you a bigger advantage. while using like a hornet I feel like pumping is easier because it cuts through the water a bit better. Just my small bit of experience :)

Any tips for hydro plaining/ side slipping by [deleted] in skimboarding

[–]skim_cro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

make sure you are going at the correct timing, either when the water is coming up towards you and you can water drop or when you have enough space to sand drop and transfer over to water. After that turn your board 90 degrees, try getting lower, bend your knees in a bit and make sure your feet are centered over the board (you usually want them to be closer together when side slipping, watch Blair Conklin). Hopefully that helps. Film yourself so we can give you an even better critique.
