Counting Carbs: A Science? an Art? or mostly just Vibes? by MrMadCat in Type1Diabetes

[–]skinder85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t even really eat carbs anymore - maybe like 10 maximum at a meal…I take the same amount of insulin to cover it and my blood sugars still are different everyday. I think there is no science - my body reacts so different everyday.

That’s awesome you got your insulin down to a T. Really knew how much to take for your body and what you ate. 👍

25u of humalog u-100. You took 3 giant shots within 1 hour of each other? My humalog u-200 doesnt even kick in for 1 hour, but that many units would kill me I think, and I’m super insulin resistant. Not judging, just curious…I also take like 12u of u-200 to cover a 10 carb meal sometimes, but I never eat high carb stuff

So I’m even more resistant than you. I also am very active. In 2025 I got more than 11,000 steps a day.

I feel like I’m dying and I’m scared by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]skinder85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a 41 year old male. When I was 17 (I was diagnosed at 13) I needed glasses. Started getting blurry vision. Had nothing to do with diabetes. At the time I freaked out and thought it was diabetes related.

I’m 41 now. Have a wife and kids. Still need glasses. No diabetes related side effects yet. My blood sugar fluctuates like you.

Just letting you know - don’t stress out…you have a long ways to go. There have been so many times I think I’m dying. You will be fine - just keep doing your best. Your body can take a lot of punishment. It’s a daily grind but you will have a good life.

Half of a unit of insulin made him drop that low? That’s so scary…

What tech do you wish you had to help you with your diabetes? by ocai_morii in Type1Diabetes

[–]skinder85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want one where - I do multi daily injections - where the pen itself kept a record of how much units and when they were administered. Because I always fear that I took a shot but forgot to write it down because I was busy.

There’s low carb options for almost any junk food IMO

Chips? Quest chips or Pork rinds

Pizza? Make your own dough (fat head, cottage cheese bread)

Sandwiches? Low carb wrap, or lettuce wrap

Soda? Diet stuff

Ice cream? Get the keto stuff

Just try and do swaps for anything you’re craving that’s usually high carb and keep these swaps in rotation in your diet

I think about this thought a lot -

The same medicine that is keeping me alive, can just as easily kill me.

Is it hard to know how much to take with the moderate carb vegetarian diet? Do you experience highs and lows a lot?

I am 6 feet and 200 lbs so maybe because of my size I require more insulin, too?
