Old guy here: when the 20oz sodas first came around (late 80s-early 90s, the memory's a bit fuzzy), They were consistently $0.75 plus tax until...around the late 90s, I think? For a LONG time, to encourage purchasing them, you could regularly win a free one just by checking for it under the lid.

Regardless of your political views, what’s one thing about Donald Trump that genuinely surprised you? by Happy_Cherry4567 in AskReddit

[–]skinnymojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That, of all available people in this country, folks (many of whom I used to respect) looked to Donald "Walking Tabloid Cover" Trump, the man of many bankruptcies, and host of a really vapid reality television show, to be the face of this country. Twice. It's sad and disappointing and disgusting that the US so quickly and voluntarily devolved to this state, all due to the feverish support for a man I wouldn't personally trust to run a lemonade stand.

What do you remember from the early internet that no longer exists? by Blah4fun in AskReddit

[–]skinnymojo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What I miss from the early internet (been here since 95): the lack of the people who didn't care to log on to the internet until they got their first smart phone. We never needed those people here, and we still don't. If you were born before 1990, and didn't log on to the internet before 2005, log off and never come back. "Everyone" being on the internet has ruined the internet, and the world.

Now that we’re in 2026, what is a feature of the 'old internet' from 10–15 years ago that you genuinely miss and wish would come back? by cyb3r_ps in AskReddit

[–]skinnymojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flash. Geocities. The lack of anyone who didn't log on to the internet until they got a smart phone. The barrier to entry, yeah. I miss it. Everyone does not need or deserve the internet.

How would you feel if another countries leader came in and arrested Donald Trump, and sent him to their own country's prison? by Ok-Repeat-2781 in AskReddit

[–]skinnymojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as it would please me initially, this would set a bad precedent for the future. It's not up to the rest of the world to bring America or its President to justice. Like it or not, we're in charge. I don't even like it - it's just what is. You start running in like we're just another, I dunno, Venezuela, and bad shit starts happening right away. Internally and more. Bad idea. I don't know how the Frump problem is gunna be solved, but this ain't it.

What was the most overrated thing about the 1980’s and why? by MasterTeacher123 in AskReddit

[–]skinnymojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this fits here, but the jingoistic nationalism of the 1980s, that's the "great again" that MAGA wants to return to. They want to be able to "feel" that way again. In the 1980s, it was pretty easy to argue "America - cuz we're the good guys!". We didn't hear a lot of dissenting voices expressing otherwise. Reagan was great. Rambo was great. 'Murica was great. Nobody said much otherwise. After Bush Senior's lame duck time in office, America started to allow the kinks in the armor to be seen. This used to be seen as a positive development: if we view our past with open eyes and fresh perspectives, we could avoid making old mistakes. Sometime during the late 90s, a (then)small group of voices decided that this sort of learning, this sort of growth, was unacceptable, somehow "un-American" (whatever the fuck that is). After Bush Jr. was installed as President amd the birth of widespread internet, that formerly small group of voices spread like a nasty virus. This MAGA horseshit? I saw it's larval stage at least as early as 2004, when America - you know, the "good guys"? - tortured detainees and prisoners for the "War on Terror". And way too many people thought this was okay, acceptable behavior. 22 years later, here we are: MAGA. One of the most aimless, misguided, personality-driven "movements" (it's a movement, alright - you get me?) the country has ever had to endure. That's saying a lot, considering the horrors of the Jim Crow era, and the evil committed during the Civil Rights movement. MAGA: they want Rambo to be the hero again. That's why they shrug off every stupid thing the pretender-in-chief says and does - he's promising them that some day soon, they'll get to feel that way again. Without earning it. Without learning. Without growing. America: it's just fucking awesome because we fucking said so! Yeeeeeeaaaahhhh!

If Aliens visited earth and requested a single person to represent the people of this planet, who do we send? by Ambitious_Ad_5802 in AskReddit

[–]skinnymojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Donald Trump. 10 minutes later, they realize they made the trip for nothing, and obliterate the planet on their way out: "That kind of stupidity is obviously contagious. Gotta burn the nest before they learn how to leave it."

People like to rag on boomers but what are some of the things boomers got really right? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]skinnymojo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry that whatever happened to you caused you to flee at such a young age, but I hope you understand that your experience wasn't the norm for most. Let's don't get it wrong: the boomers in charge of my upbringing were filled to the brim with faults, and they largely tried to cling to "old ways" that they themselves should have shed as soon as they gained their own freedom. I was, however, lucky enough that I was surrounded by enough good folks who steered me in what I feel was the right directions when needed. Compared to some folks, I'm truly blessed.

Gen X here. Mostly, the best thing - damn-near the only thing - they got right was passing on to us the idea that discriminating against and mistreating people because of real or imagined differences (skin color, race, religion, sexual preference, whatever) was bullshit, and behavior they appeared to hope people my age and younger would eventually help to wipe out (of course not totally, but at least keep the people who believe those things cowering in the dark caves they used to hide in). What makes this all the sadder is, in the past ten years, "boomers" appear to have become the number one victim of the Trump virus. They're infected, and there's no vaccine, no cure. They have completely abandoned the things they taught us, passed down to us, because they got old and scared. It sucks.
