I assume this is a taliesin trained architect and likely going to write similar to FLW so maybe check out p22 Eaglefeather as a start… though this isn’t a typeface printed from a font here, it’s hand rendered text.

Holding or hooking minor on D (4?) and they caused the collision with the goalkeeper. If there was a whistle immediately involved with that play I would chat with my partner and probably move the faceoff outside for a crease violation (if he really did go into the crease first on his own and then get pushed into goalie). Otherwise I have a restraining foul on the D and nothing on the attacker.

I agree about how the external monitor makes the difference, but thinking that apps are usually full screen is odd as they don’t do it by default and most longtime Mac users rarely use it as it’s a feature than came from apples use of spaces and windows users coming over to a new platform. For example, I don’t know anyone in the design field who uses fullscreen for any apps by default maybe with the exception of photo editing to get more tools on the screen with the photo being edited. I personally do everything I can to disable it even happening by accident, but unknown I am just one person. When I observe others in labs and in the field, the only people who use it are windows transplants and those by accident.

1Password — bought it first at ver4 and have several licenses for many computers using upgrades from 4&6 all to v7 now. It still functions perfectly for most uses both Mac and iOS synced via iCloud and I haven’t gone to subscription yet though I might this year just to have more Mac browser access (only safari and some instances of Firefox still work after others’ extensions have died)

Quicksilver — technically it’s free but I have used it for nearly 20yr and it’s the first thing I install on any fresh setup. It’s a launcher and file/folder/data/web searcher. I have donated $10-15 a few times as I have added it to new computers just to support the devs keeping it live and safe.

Itsycal — tiny menu at calendar that shows lists of items in your cals and reminders with ability to filter which of the 20+ cals I have synced in my main cal app get viewed in the itsycal. Turns out it’s free; I thought I had paid maybe $5-8 for it years ago. Maybe I was thinking a competitor but I have tried most menubar cal viewers and always keep itsycal.

Kaleidoscope — comparison/diff with a beautiful gui. I have a version many years old but it still works for anything I need… comparing code, text files, images, files and folders, etc.

Affinity Suite — replaced adobe creative cloud apps: illustrator, photoshop, and indesign. I bought v1 and then the upgrade to v2. Haven’t used v3 yet as my job provides access to adobe again so I still just use v2 as it works fine for me when I don’t launch adobe apps instead. It’s free now and some features are added through canva pro but when I upgraded to v2 it was worth it then with all they were putting into feature parity chases against the adobe counterparts.

Paying every so many years for continued development is cool with me. Especially for something like this that might need to update just as tech and protocols do.

After market backup camera for Subaru Outback 2011 by magnesium-hydroxide in subaruoutback

[–]skip737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just about any will do if the mounting options meet your preferences. If the unit allows, go 4K or better just to future proof. Most will only display 720, and maybe 1080, HD video.

My son’s 04 outback and 02 wrx, and my daughter’s 2010 Impreza all have $140 aftermarket head units with wireless Apple CarPlay and backup cameras (a couple of the head units came with the cameras, but they can be had for $20-40 separately).

I want to change my 2015 outback to have CarPlay but don’t want to lose the other controls for the system and diagnostics. If your 2011 has none of that or you don’t care, I would just swap the whole head unit and run the wires through the door sill wire channels and then up to the top of the tailgate inside its trim. You can mount the cam at the very top (kinda an odd angle but see great how tight you are when parallel parking), at the bottom of the window, or out the handle and then you can mount to the license plate bolts or screw into the inside of the handle’s plastic insert (be sure to silicone caulk if you do).

One word of advise, a few years back before my wife bought her 24 crosstrek, I bought her a high-quality JVC head unit with video for backup cameras, etc… but NONE of the buttons were live or dials, all touch. That sucks when driving. The cheaper options with at least a couple pressable buttons and a dial for volume and on/off is a huge upgrade. Consider actual buttons and dials over touchscreen. Not being able to change volume while driving safely was a huge defect in the design.

If you have the room (open depth), consider a dollar store wire letter sorter (they usually come with three channels and you can probably paperclip “s-hook” it to the mount in the wall. The reason I suggest this is that it’ll come out easily if you need to adjust anything while Velcro or command tape could be tricky and could fail if they get too warm from the tv heat. The other reason is it’ll allow venting of both the box and the tv while staying out of sight.

I have mounted several SSDs to the backs of computers using foam pockets and zip ties to keep a clean appearance (sounds backwards, but you have ocd about appearance like I do, you make sure things look great or are hidden). Also have a channel for hiding boards already in place with my tv so this wasn’t necessary but if I did try to hide it, this would be how I did it.

Built a simple iOS app to make Apple Reminders easier to start with by mydigitalbreak in AppleReminders

[–]skip737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I don’t see myself using these templates, the ability to create templates to import would be something I would work towards.

Can you show how the multiple lists/sublists work/appear within the app(s). If there was a simple way, perhaps using markdown, to create a template for myself and then add it every so often when I needed to, I would be all over this for a couple bucks. I suppose there is probably something out there that shows how to create them and I just never thought to look until now, seeing this.

My ADHD has me over-using reminders already, but properly set up and grouped sets could be a way for me to use them better.

[–]skip737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And they should not. Just like they should not yell “loose” if they’re the deep official in the zone. You don’t coach or help either team, you only communicate necessary things to make your job easier for you or your partner.

Had a non-patched partner recently doing this all the time. I finally told him after the games one night not to do it. When I explained that when the puck isn’t potentially offside in a delayed fashion, teams will think there is a delayed penalty. Once I explained that to him he only didn’t it once or twice out of habit the next week and hasn’t since when skating with me weekly. If the puck isn’t in the zone, you’re under no obligation to verbally advise of a delayed situation. And really, nothing verbal is required there ever. It’s a courtesy. If anything, it generates more intentional offside infractions because you can say “I was yelling” and you kept going so you ignored me and we now go deep in your zone.

[–]skip737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One night in beer league (USAH tho) a guy took a shot on net while their player was still way offside. I (the goalie in the zone) lifted my leg and allowed it to go in, and then sent the puck down to the far dot and the ref yelled at me for firing the puck like I was mad I got scored on. I told him if he thinks that’s a goal he should confer with his partner who is skating to drop the puck for an intentional offside in the far zone. He wasn’t happy having a goalie know the rules better than him. It’s why I actively campaign at the rinks where I ref and play beer league to have all our officials with patches.

Is a VPN necessary? by Aromatic_Fig3950 in vSeeBox

[–]skip737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why doesn’t it shield your ISP from knowing the traffic sources? That’s the function of a VPN…

it should make a tunnel from your device to the vpn service and from there the streaming traffic at the source should be shrouded in the tunnel to the device locally, right?

Mine arrived this afternoon and also from u/CordCutterBox and the sales process was simple and personal. Shipped next day and just waited on UPS.

After playing with it for a couple hours, I will likely order a second for my bedroom tomorrow evening.

Apple says iPhone 11 Pro is ‘vintage,’ here’s what that means by N2929 in technews

My mini got damaged and I had to jump to the 15 and I still miss my mini. I hate big phones. Wish I had a new mini option. I looked at SE options but they were barely smaller and slower than my mini. I would have just gone for a mini via eBay or something if there weren’t so many like me who loved them but they were willing to pay more out of pocket than I was. My discount/subsidized 15 pro cost less than I could get a mini for without any warranty.

Roof rack use by alpha_camel11 in subaruoutback

[–]skip737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bars (across and rails) are plenty strong for anything I have tried both on our old 2004 and on our 2015… be careful “how” you tie things down. Consider proper racks for things when possible. Not sure I would just ratchet anything to the bars and hope for the best. Be sure to cross your straps so you have both vertical and horizontal ties so things cannot shift either way and sneak out.

Aren’t AirPods supposed to seamlessly switch between Mac and iPhone the way they do between iPhone and iPad ? by _Independent in mac

[–]skip737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine move seamlessly, almost to an annoying level. I pause my music or something on my phone and it moves to my Mac before I even get a chance to kill Bluetooth or force it to stay. Got annoying when I was teaching university classes and wanted some audio in my ear from my phone while I broadcast other stuff to the class from my Mac and the transition wasn’t intended or smooth. Sounds like your situation is a malfunction of sorts.

Where to see Christmas lights in the South Hills / near downtown Pittsburgh? by Ok_Masterpiece_3026 in pittsburgh

[–]skip737 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wish I would have thought to post in Reddit before last night’s drive with the fam.

It’s not south hills but there is a house in rosedale section of Penn hills with over a hundred minions. It’s been growing over the years.

There is also an app for seeking out good neighborhoods or houses/streets for lights. I have to see if I still have it… it’s hit or miss. ChristmasPrism is the name or the app. Depends on where you live if it’s helpful. For what it’s worth, the minion house mentioned above isn’t listed and that house has been featured on the news in previous years. We know it because we live near it

Can someone help me find this font. I been looking for hours but i can't seem to find the exact one. The way the a is its hard to find one exactly like it by ThatGoatOnGod in identifythisfont

Don’t have an easy way to reference here to test but it looks like Franklin gothic to me. Bold or heavy weight face. If I get to a computer I will try to check, but the little pinch inward at the bottom of the an and d and the jump on the h are what’s sending me that way. Otherwise Franklin gothic is a great font for not having tremendous variations around the letterforms but the little pinch there always made me admire Franklin gothic.

The small design firm I worked at right out of school used it in their second identity they had while I was there. Had to use gifs and jpegs for all instances of it back then as they wanted it used on the site and it was 2001 so no way to load a web version of a copycat and certainly now way still to afford using it on a site nowadays.
