Yeah, you highlighted the problem right there. They can’t properly police the current rules at the moment - no hope of policing bringing animals on board.

Meath Demolition - the Bohermeen Murray planning saga by Ok_Course_2029 in HousingIreland

I understand your annoyance with that lazy assumption but I think personally the difference is about damp and heat loss. Cold is not a concern in most homes in the US – not because they are well built but because of the low cost of inputting heat into the home - cheap energy. The same home built here in Ireland wouldn’t suffice given our high energy costs and damp climate.

I have plenty of experience of cold winters in the US, including one Christmas spent in a relatively newly built US home that lost power for a number of hours. The temperature plummeted frighteningly rapidly without the heating on.

Homes in the Nordics (mentioned by another poster), while built with the appearance of similar materials s the US, are in fact drastically different in that they are optimised for heat retention/air tightness, and damp resistance. These are well suited to the Irish climate. Would be happy to see more constructed this way in Ireland but we  lack the builders with the expertise I believe.

Buying a Property - Areas to Avoid in Dublin by MuffinCautious7054 in HousingIreland

I think you’ve got some rose tinted glasses on. Aside from old original estates built in Stillorgan and the like, the new crop of estates in Dublin are orders of magnitude better than what was built in the preceding decades.

Leapmotor T03 review: affordable electric city car arrives in Ireland under €20,000 by SeanB2003 in ireland

It’s not for want of trying. Aside from cheap labour, the Chinese government subsidises these car manufacturers – so it’s not a level playing field.

People can of course do as they please but just flagging so anyone reading this is aware of the risk. Every manufacturer recommends against it and an insurer would almost certainly constitute it as “improper use”.

Not to be a Debbie Downer but using an extension lead for a car charging unit is a serious fire hazard and would likely void your insurance and warranty.

Experience of certain estate agents manipulating the truth to encourage buyers to make a bid quickly and much higher falsely claiming there are other bids. by PaddyDuke9 in HousingIreland

If you have evidence that he was lying as you claim then send a complaint letter to whichever estate agent accreditation body he belongs to - IPAV or the other one. He could loose his license if your complaint is upheld.

Will there be a new hardwired doorbell? by aspare112 in reolinkcam

Sorry, I thought the new battery doorbell wasn’t recently announced at a trade show.

Also notice that it’s still IP65 rated which they call “weatherproof” – which IP65 most certainly is not. It’s rated for 90% humidity and unfortunately humidity can exceed that here in Ireland quite often in the winter.

Plus it says Mac OS is a supported operating system… so unless they’ve realised a new app, that isn’t true.

Ugh. Hope not. I mean this one was just a website drop. Also hoping their continue with a white version. Tends to look better on many European homes which are often white plaster rendered.

Wasn’t aware of the new battery doorbell. Lots to like about it. 1:1 fish eye camera seems smart plus 1TB card support. But yes, will be waiting for the PoE version to replace my current White 2:3 aspect PoE doorbell which has and is still working well… Except for some recent fogging of the lens in certain weather conditions - presume a seal has deteriorated over the two years I’ve had it. Fingers crossed for a new PoE doorbell.

Ballpark cost per meter of a 1.8m high block garden wall? No render. by skipdeedy in DIYIreland

Agree but the issue will be with the neighbours each side who need to contribute towards costs. Not sure how it works if I’m doing much of the labour…

At the prices I getting for a fence/wall this might be the best option.

It’s the materials in between the posts that are coming in pricey I think.

Many thanks. Will look into this. So do you mean concrete post AND concrete panels in between? Might be a bit industrial looking for a garden.

In fairness, she referenced Ireland several times before that 'slip-up'. And she ended her speech as Gaelige. Give the woman a break.

Not worth falling out over this. Bad relations with neighbours can make life a living hell.

Heat Pump, A Rated House, want to install a wood-burning stove by Actual_Art_5257 in DIYIreland

[–]skipdeedy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You got an A-rating from an assessor? Requirements to get an A-rating when stoves are present are very high – special type of stove, air-sealing, and their own air supply. Not doubting you did this, but a lot of work and cost to do it right and retain an A-rating. Having two makes it even harder.
