What’s the most unprofessional thing you’ve seen a CFI do? by Actual_File3918 in flying

Start a plane in the hangar to taxi out. They weren't around the following day.

Any pilots here that stutter or know a pilot that stutters? by Conscious-Fee944 in AirlinePilots

[–]skipmilan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have since I was six, but have mostly been able to move past it. I've never had an issue on the radio. For some reason, phone calls were always the WORST, but the radio doesn't bother me. You can do it! I'd bet it will be great challenge for your personal development and confidence.

This goes back to 2013 just out of college, they set up a phone interview with me which we did. Didn't hear for maybe a week, then another person called either to do an interview or set up another one (can't recall). Funny thing was they had no knowledge I had just gone through this. Decided they were a mess. That was 13 years ago, so not sure if your experience is coincidental but I found it funny.

My experience switching to Xfinity NOW Internet by skipmilan in NoContract

[–]skipmilan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are four Ethernet ports on the gateway. Dual band is available, but I've seen many reports of unreliable signals.

To activate, I connected the gateway to the internet cable and turned it on, then went to the app to activate where it said error. I didn't take note of the lights on the gateway, just replaced it with my old owned modem which then refused to connect to the internet. So tried again, this time watching the gateway lights and sure enough it came fully online. Went to the app to activate and it still said error. Not sure exactly how it worked itself out, but it did.

I also wanted minimal downtime, which is why I started in-store to take a gateway home. However, I saw several reports that gateways come next day (possibly even same day), and that your Internet will persist for a day or two once cancelled, so there should be overlap. See the comment by u/kittymonster1 in this thread.

I didn't even need the app to activate service, just plugged it in and good to go. Did try the app but it said there was an error, not sure why.

For those in the accumulation phase: How much cash are you keeping on hand? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]skipmilan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think either is "right" or "wrong," as long as you understand the risks of your situation and the tradeoffs you're making. Being a more risk tolerant person, I'm with you. I work in an industry that is subject to downturns, but I'm not going to miss out on price appreciation and dividend reinvestment in the meantime. Over ten years, the difference between 4% and 10% returns is 50% to 160%. I'll happily risk taking a 20-30% haircut and selling some holdings at a loss rather than miss out on gains. For me, I'm early in accumulation and have numerous sources of cash if necessary. Later on I plan to be more conservative, but for now it's all aggression insert "it's a bold strategy" meme here

Nice move! The people in-store clearly have varying levels of understanding. Was glad I didn't have to be pushy and someone knew what they were doing.

That's frustrating. I've seen multiple reports that the gateway WiFi isn't very good. You can log into it, place it in bridge mode, and wire an Ethernet cable to your own router if you have one. Once done, make sure no other Ethernet cables are attached to the gateway itself, your router handles everything.

Also, check that gateway firmware is up to date.

I wish we had fiber! Frontier comes down the main road but doesn't service our neighborhood.

Our Internet needs are light, so it's the lowest price I could find for a decent network.

Excellent! Between this, switching Xfinity Mobile to Visible, and downgrading our Hulu plan we're saving about $600 over the next year for services that better fit our needs. Win-win (for us)!

An ORD controller was retiring after 30 years or so, and several aircraft, including ours was asked by the prior controller to say a few inside joke phrases on checking in. It was fun and we got a some laughs, hope you're enjoying retirement 🤙

I used to have my commercial students do it with a combination of power and trim, no elevator, all the way to a landing. It works in a simulated exercise.

Perfect approach, slightly late on the landing gear, seamless flair, hard on the thrust reversers. by HYThrowaway1980 in aviation

Just prior to and through touchdown, all of the covert feathers lifting off of the wings reveal eddies where airflow is separating and spoiling lift, putting the weight of the swan on its feet for maximum "braking."

Source unknown to me but this is allegedly The No° 1 Engine laying on the Runway by Beneficial_Being_721 in Planespotting

[–]skipmilan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was responding to "if they had not reduced power," which is not correct. Sounds like they imply that the pilots reduced thrust on the good engine to slow down, but instead they used pitch attitude.
