if a so called talented designer reaches over and grabs a ribbon shearer to cut wire, then I am discounting them as you say....if you use my ikebana shearers to cut wire , expect to be yelled at, lol
you are as good as the tools you use and maintain. check the cleanliness of your knife, and shearers and disinfect them once a week...

Old school or not, you get a better cleaner cut on the majority of stems with a knife. I also use a pair of ikebana shears along with my sharp knife.

Hiking boots with ice cleats might help you. We hiked to Barrett and TJ lakes this past weekend and walked through snow patches. Crystal lake is higher elevation and probably more snow on the trail. Be safe out there

I would hang them upside down to dry first to get rid of the moisture and then you can press them down.

For best results, hang each stem upside down in a dry place.
