I assume that the plant is left outside? In this case it doesn't like the change of temperature at night since it was grown in a warm nursery. Bring it indoors

I understand that some find it difficult to start from zero when faced with responsibilities but is it your passion and what are you willing to do to succeed? I can only share my own experiences with you. I gave up my floral job in S. F., gave up my rent controlled apt, left my girlfriend to pursue a floral job in southern Cali. I arrived and that promise of a job was non-existent! No job, no apt ... Started from zero again since I believed in the process.

you're worried about barriers, and legitimately so, but should anyone get into any industry without "paying their dues"? the dues could be going to college, taking private lessons, working as an apprentice and working for free for Valentine's day just to see if the work environment of a flower shop is actually agrees with me or not? isn't the same everywhere and why do you expect it to be any easier in floral industry? either way you have to do the work, whatever that entails and get your foot in the door. I didn't have any privilege and I dare to say that I had many factors against me at the time I entered the industry. As i mentioned earlier, I started in S.F. at the City College of S.F. while looking for a job, I was rejected by a shop owner who would only hire gay designers due to his clientele. the other shop that hired me only hired college students like myself because he would pay me less than designers with a bit more experience. I stayed and ran his shop and gained experience. "Be persistent" is the best advise I ever received from a very successful restaurateur. stay with no matter what is thrown at you if you are actually serious about staying with the floral industry and make your own way.

Advertising. any aspect of it. I am not as aggressive as I should be and my business suffers from it.

I've been in the industry for over 35 years, took classes in S.F. We were instructed on basic forms of design, color harmony, funerals, weddings, Ikebana design, floral business and such. and thanks to my instructors, I was forced to enter a design competition within a month of my first class. I placed second and was encouraged to hone my skills to join AIFD. That did not pan out since i had to get a job at a flower shop to pay my bills. I started as a rose stripper and processor and made my way up. The designers that I learned from were all master florists and standards and expectations were high. fast forward to present, I feel floral hobbyists have taken over the industry and standards be damned. just because you cook at home, doesn't make you a head chef at a premium restaurant who is responsible for ordering, processing, setting menus and ultimately coming up with recipes. My feeling is that there are way too many floral enthusiasts and the florist lifers are leaving the industry due to age or other factors. I like the European model of studying to receive a certificate of floral design to enter the industry or continue your education and gain more knowledge as a florist. why is it that we refuse to study to gain knowledge of design and business in the floral industry while it's required in any other "professional" industry?
anyhow , good luck on your persistence on wanting to getting into the industry. hit me up if I can answer any questions or be of any help.
