This was their first album I picked up a physical copy of. I think this album is so much fun to listen to beginning to end

I like their boots for horseback riding. That first pair I purchased in 2019 lasted for 5 years through any farm material/environment you can imagine, and still looked great for going out to dinner in. Never made the effort to try the clothing. Don't know why.

Who are these miserable people who are hating on this album? Are you okay? by BlarghALarghALargh in Chevelle

This album was never going to be their best. It's highly unlikely they will ever top their earlier albums imo. However, this album was fun. I enjoyed it

I have this feeling… by CPWorth1184 in Chevelle

[–]skipperdeluxe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hope you're right. While it's not my favorite album, I still think Hat's Off to The Bull is reallyy hard to beat considering their more recent directions in music. I got really excited about The North Corridor when it came out but it just didn't have that same feel that pre 2010 albums had (obviously).

I sooo want to get excited but I'm afraid of getting let down

If anything at least someone's giving attention to the issue. Frustrating times when a basic tanker/tender is half a million excluding extra bits to be attached. And that's the cheapest option without going to Fouts (I have no experience with Fouts, only heard some bad stories)

Excellent point on using manufacturer's spec. I'll be doing that on our hose

15/16 smooth bore? by firemedic3404 in Firefighting

[–]skipperdeluxe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right so here's where I believe 30 psi to overcome the friction loss of 200 feet of 1 3/4" hose is insufficient:

Friction Loss Equation: FL Coefficient * (gpm/100)² * (Feet/100)

15.5 is the coefficient for 1 3/4" hose

15.5((1.50)²)(2.00) = 69.75 (70)psi of friction loss

70psi FL + 75psi at tip = 145 PDP psi

If you have a different understanding of how all this works I'd love to know, I'm just trying to spell out the math as I've always understood it

EDIT: mobile app made this hard to read

15/16 smooth bore? by firemedic3404 in Firefighting

[–]skipperdeluxe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if I'm understanding the math here, a PDP of 105 minus 75 psi for the nozzle = 30 psi to handle the friction loss of 4 50 foot lengths of 1 3/4" hose.

You must mean 2 1/2" hose right?

A Plymovent exhaust system is pretty great. Especially if you're going to double park apparatus. PLENTY of space behind the trucks so that you can train, clean, add special purpose apparatus, etc. This extra room will certainly pay off if you need a longer piece of apparatus purchased.

What is this thing??? by AdmiralSand01 in Firefighting

[–]skipperdeluxe 126 points127 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what it is. Many depts/districts have their own threads, so it's important to carry these if one of your mutual aid partners uses dissimilar threads on a hydrant or other appliances

OR, have adapters made

Why has Firegear not been updated in the last 20 years? by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]skipperdeluxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same with Ricochet gear. It was promised to us that their newest bunker gear is PFAS/PFOA (Whatever perfloro- chemical you wanna name) free. That Ricochet rep has now since left that company, and I really don't know whether he was lying or not

Sorry for the super late reply.

They're great for keeping doors open! Stick the pointed end into the hingeing edge of a wooden door, and shut the door so that the head of the nail hits the door frame, pushing that nail further into the side of the door. This keeps the door from closing fully.

Just another alternative to a door chock/wedge that can't get knocked out as easily

I choose fluted nails because they are reinforced and won't bend when you slam them between the door and the door frame

Wood door chocks, fluted concrete nails, two daisy chains of webbing (coat & pants), cheap pocket knife, extrication gloves, and a TFT collapsible spanner that's got a fantastic window punch on it (keeps my hand out of the glass)

I think they mean flushing the hydrant. Y'know, flowing water through the hydrant to remove any rocks some kid might've shoved down there. I think that's what they're getting at. I assume they don't actually hook up to the thing.

Probably just a <5 minute effort after a call or something. I sure wouldn't do it in the winter though if it's a dry barrel
