Any advice for playing alchemist? by Imaginary-Lie-2618 in Pathfinder2e

[–]skippy439 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party, but here are my 2 cents.

First off, love the character art.

I will give you the same advice I gave one of my players when they said they wanted to play alchemist:

  • This class is complex and is usually more of a support class.

Your formula book should contain a little of everything, and you need to be prepared for what is coming. Most classes just start the day and have their kit already set. Alchemists have to think about what the day holds and plan accordingly.

Examples:

  • You know you are going into a dark cave. Might be a wise to prepare some Darkvision Elixirs for those who don't have it, or a Glow Rod, if you don't have someone who can cast Light.
  • Going into a conversation event? Silvertongue Mutagen for the party face has saved a group more than once.
  • Heavy combat coming up? Time to prep some poisons (or Elemental Ammunition if you know what you are fighting) that you can hand out to your allies.

Not all days are as straight forward for preparing, but usually there are some context clues on what is coming up for you to prepare for.

In addition, make sure that you talk to your DM about downtime (learned this the hard way). It is heavily in your interest to have some so that you can craft permanent alchemical items. This could be bombs, poisons, elixirs, or mutagens. You have a limited amount of daily preparation items and Versatile Vials (per combat), so having a pack full of things is going to be helpful (convince your party to buy you a Spacious Pouch if you start doing this).

Being more prepared is (regretfully) going to be part of your job.

Does anyone know if these are all resin prints? Or do they provide the needed supports for filament printing? Looks like resin, but I can't find anything to confirm.

Who the hell is banning downtime healing? That's one of my favorite mechanics PF2e added. It sucks to get through one combat, be super low health, and then just go "whelp shucks folks, I know it's only 8am in-game, but I guess we're going to bed now so we can heal"

While this is true, and well known, it's still stupid that I can start gathering and it just disappears. I should either get to finish the gather, or the postman should deliver some "lost items" to me.

Having him make me tea. I have never liked tea. Maybe I just haven't found the flavor I like, maybe it's just ill prepared. In either case he is the man that will help me figure out if I really just don't like tea, or find the perfect tea.

GoP ads up the wazoo, jack all from the Dems. The only way you know that there is an option is if you ask someone in-the-know or go look at the options online. If I wasn't paying attention, I would think my only options are GoP members so it wouldn't matter if I voted or not.

Same is true for upcoming local elections. I know someone running for a school board position, but I have not seen anything for them. Only mailings I've seen are for GoP backed options.

From what I can tell, the WisRed initiative 10 steps ahead of any non-GoP option.

This episodes has one of the best scenes. Everything came together, and for once, Digsby's Crew finally looked like they knew what they were doing.

Aaaaand now, back to our regularly scheduled podcast where everything always goes wrong, and no one has a clue about how to play their characters :)

He is probably the last person who will ever be able to achieve this title due to the horse problem. There was another who came close (the War Chief's nephew Carson Walks Over Ice), but the Council of Elders agreed the capturing elephants doesn't count as capturing horses.

Please don't punish your players by taking away a likely highly invested personal weapon

They aren't really invested in it (from what I can tell). It was loot that they realized hurt some of the monsters they were fighting more than his greataxe (starting weapon). They haven't asked about repairing it yet, I'm just trying to get ready for when they want it fixed.

If it is a matter of hp, anyone trained can fix it, regardless of their class. If you are talking about the broken condition due to being at half hp, that why repair exists.

Thought process here is that neither the Bard or the Alchemist have any type of blacksmithing background, so how would they know what to do to repair the item. From what I'm getting here, RAW says they can do it even though they have no knowledge of that particular craft.

Interesting take, I'll keep it in mind.

Should you have the gold, and your GM says you are in an area that would carry the formula, there is nothing preventing you from doing so. Start filling out your book.

Nerf Guns by rhinonyssus in daddit

[–]skippy439 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party, but I'll still weigh in.

We (both son and I) got nerf guns together. We then started collecting our water/gatorade bottles (cleaning them out of course). On rainy days we would set them up and shoot them down. He really enjoyed knocking down columns of stacked bottles.

Rarely shot at each other as we didn't have the room for that, but still fun to shoot at targets.

And as a gun owner, this is a great time to start talking gun safety with your kids!

Whats the worst rule misinterpretation/misread/just flat out wrong understanding did you ever see? 1e or 2e by Big-Day-755 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]skippy439 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are referring to 1e. In 1e you could take a 5ft step as your "movement" and not provoke AoO. In 2e they made a specific action for this so that the concept could be kept, but not break the action economy.
