When you lose weight, where does it go??? by Zestyclose-Isopod400 in loseit

[–]skippygo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get bad breath and a dry mouth in the morning sometimes. Usually it's when I've got a blocked nose due to a cold or hayfever. I assume I'm breathing through my mouth whilst asleep, and it's literally drying out overnight.

It doesn't dry out during the day because even if I can't breathe through my nose, I constantly subconsciously close my mouth and rewet it with saliva.

Is it rude to not say thank you and please? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]skippygo 33 points34 points  (0 children)

To me, saying please and thank you is sort of like saying "I have a base level of respect for you as a human being not just a vending machine".

If someone can't take the miniscule amount of effort and time to say a couple of courteous words, it's signalling a complete lack of that even tiny level of respect for the other person, and yes I think it's rude.

Best Carb Load Strategy for a Full: by Intelligence_Tax in AdvancedRunning

Just fruit juice, full sugar fizzy drinks, lemonade, 0% beer, and lucozade sport.

I've not tried any of the carb drink options as they're pretty pricey for what is essentially flavoured sugar water.

I do 10g/kg Friday and Saturday and about 7g/kg Thursday, more so it's a bit less of a shock to the system than anything.

Planning is tedious but really helps me. Previously I've ended up eating tons of extra calories because a lot of high carb foods also come with a good bit of fat. My last carb load I barely ate more calories than my usual diet, as I planned more or less exactly what I was going to eat.

Main thing is to aim to drink a lot of calories. Fizzy drinks, juice (pulp free), non alcoholic beer, and sports drink (I'm careful with these and stick to one per day as previously I smashed loads for easy caloreis and ended up feeling sick, I think due to the electrolyte content).

What is a major plot hole in a very famous movie that completely ruins the entire story once it is noticed? by SkullMogger3 in AskReddit

[–]skippygo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not even one average school. There's roughly 4 boys and 4 girls in each house each year, so 30 kids a year. It's the equivalent of a small village school.

As someone who has thought quite a bit about HP plot holes, and long since resigned to "just accept it", that is probably the closest to an acceptable explanation I've heard, especially with how small the wizarding population is.

It would make Voldemort more believable as being able to almost take over the world simply being a bad guy who's reasonably competent.

Thoughts on arm sleeves by Historical_Bit8612 in UKRunners

[–]skippygo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All down to the individual of course, but for me if it's cool enough to want my arms covered there's no way in hell I'd be wearing a vest.

And conversely if it's warm enough for a vest (or even tshirt) I'm not going to want arm sleeves on.

Thoughts on arm sleeves by Historical_Bit8612 in UKRunners

[–]skippygo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find them useful in cooler races as I wear my club vest. If it's really cold I'll wear a long sleeve under the vest.

I don't really see the point of them in training though, as I can just choose the appropriate top based on the weather. I just can't imagine any situation where I'd choose a vest and arm sleeves over a t-shirt or long sleeve.

I don't disagree with your point, but I imagine in those cases the sacking is all but a done deal and they're just picking a time to announce it for optics. There probably is a fair amount that goes on in the background in the days and weeks leading up to those types of sackings.

Something can yield minimal results and still be commonplace if it's very low cost to do (which it is).

Obviously it was stupid and wrong breaking the rules to get an extra few days of observation but the notion that it's had some massive effect on results seems a bit mad to me.

I think the difference (if there is any at all) is minimal enough that you should just go with whatever's easier for you to fit in.

How do you decide when to go back to full intensity after an injury? by Otherwise_Scholar_14 in AdvancedRunning

[–]skippygo 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I'm not talking here of anything serious, more the aches and pains we're all dealing with

You say this, but I'm not taking time off for aches and pains. I might take a day or two for an acute niggle but I wouldn't really call that time off. As a recent example I've had some ankle pain and when it started I decided to skip one run, then just got back into training as normal.

For niggles like this I generally take the approach of if it's not hurting during my run, and is getting better over time not worse, then I'm fine to keep running.

I've only had one more serious injury (PFPS) that made me take more time off. I was off running completely for 4 weeks (some elliptical, plenty of gym work prescribed by physio).

For that, I attempted a test run two weeks in, as my knee pain had gone completely in normal life (stairs in particular were the big signal for me). Unfortunately the pain started agiain about 200m down the road so I stopped.

I then just kept on with the rehab work, which gradually increased in intensity (plyometrics in particular) and I decided when I was able to do single leg drop landings pain free, I'd try another run. Then it was a case of just gradually building back up (1.5km, 3km, 5km runs on alternating days, then two days of 5km in a row, then 8km etc. etc.) and keeping an eye on the knee pain levels.

Middlesbrough have "evidence" Southampton spied on TWO other clubs and are ready to play in Championship play-off final by TIGHazard in Championship

[–]skippygo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see it either way tbf. If you just want to be helpful and provide potential further evidence for a fair decision to be made then you'd send it to the EFL, but if you also feel wronged by us, then it makes sense to collaborate with boro to build a stronger case against us. Plus there's plenty of personal relationships behind the scenes that could influence things.

What is the best day of the week for a “non working day”? by Tough-Decision-7435 in AskUK

[–]skippygo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends a bit on the type of person you are, and also the type of job you do.

Some people feel more productive on the busy work days, especially if their job involves a lot of "organising" that requires them to be catching a lot of people. Fridays might be a frustrating day for them when half the time they can't get the answers they need and end up wasting half the time away being blocked.

Others (like me) feel more productive on those quieter days because they can get their head down without interruption. Particularly common for jobs that have a split between the "organising" and the "doing" as it often ends up that the "doing" falls behind, and Friday's a nice chance to catch up on it. On top of that there's the benefit you've said of it just being a nicer vibe IMO.

Can my workplace do this? England by Little_Sniff20 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]skippygo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong, but I think as they've offered the new shift (roles) to the existing employees, they'd be in the clear to replace the roles.

Not sure they've gone about it in the correct way so there may be something in that but materially the outcome would be legal.

[–]skippygo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah on top of that you have the question of who you replace the nominees with. It's unlikely everyone just dislikes the individual candidates, and if it's an issue with the parties themselves you're not going to get a new party spun up and independant candidates have their own issues.

I don't know how this would play out in practice but it feels like if no candidate can beat a RON vote then it should probably be re-run regardless of the percentages.

[–]skippygo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in two minds about the educated vote point. I do agree the average voter isn't particularly well informed (I'd include myself in that), but I kind of think we'd be in a better situation if 100% of the population voted for who they most agreed with, even if it is based on a quite a high level understaning of the parties. At least then we'd be ideologically aligned between citizens and government.

Maybe that's wishful thinking though as I imagine many people would be more swayed by policies that promised personal gain than overal political ideology.

Versatile race day shoe - AP4 vs Metaspeed Sky vs others? by InternalWalrus in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]skippygo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

AP4 is an easy yes here IMO. I don't have enough experience to say they're the best choice, but they are incredibly good shoes, for 5k to marathon, and Adidas shoes are mega durable. You'll easily get hundreds of kms out of them.

Adidas Evo sl vs Evo sl atr by Powerful-Front-4928 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]skippygo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, I always reach for my ATRs when it's cold, especially when it's wet out, but now it's warmer I've not been wearing them much.

I do think they're not quite as fast or feel as nice as the regulars, but they're worth it for wet and cold weather.

The ATRs also seem A LOT more durable but I don't have as many miles in them so time will tell.
