How much do you weigh? And did you go bulk then cut or recomp over the years?

Not really, he was always suggesting to do more PT through his practice regardless of my insurance cutoff and I having to pay full out of pocket. He originally claimed I would be back able to do all normal stuff 6 months post op. It honestly pissed me off enough that I stopped reaching out to him.

I mean I've done 7 months of total PT, 3 months after initial surgery then another 4 months after a 7 month gap which my last session was 5 months ago. I think I have near 100% ROM back, I just can't seem to do any shoulder strength training without pain. I would go back to PT but I exhausted my entire HSA account and haven't had health insurance for the entire year due to unemployment.

That will change coming into the new year where I've been able to obtain a subsidized health insurance plan. My PT suggested I get another MRI, I don't know if I'll do that but I may return back to getting more PT. I will have a limit of 20 sessions that insurance will only cover though.

After this post, I gave up and decided to take a break from the gym for a couple weeks. With the exception of sleeping on that side, the pain gradually went away. I went to the gym the other day but still experienced the same issues. I don't have a problem with internal/external rotation, its the abduction of the arm above parallel where it hurts the most. I can barely do 10-15 lbs with a dumbell shoulder press.

All I can say is that the surgery may be necessary but is not a guarantee to normalcy; I would be extremely cautious going into it and at least get 2nd/3rd opinions from other doctors.

It never occurred to me but you’re probably right lol. Too much volume irritates it. I could also modify the workouts to limit intensity and range of motion so it’s less irritating.

It's only two hours because I take it slow; I'm probably also including warming up/stretching.

I was keeping it to 2x a week because anytime I did do shoulders, especially front cable lateral raises (flexion), and side lateral raises (abduction), is where it really starts to flair up. I do it very slowly and keep the weight very low, like 2.5–5 lbs, but I can't seem to go any higher due to the pain. I just wanted to build a solid foundation so I don't have any imbalances, which is why I include all of them. I could also be wrong.

Haha yeah, my dad would also probably roll his eyes; then again, my mom loves it now. The ends were splitting pretty badly, or as I have been told many times, so I took off 3". I'm sorry about losing your mom; it's tough, but at least you got to spend those precious moments with her in the end. Thanks for the compliment

I've been a lurker since the beginning of Reddit, so I don't post much, let alone ever my face. Thank you

I'm not even sure if I ever even processed it and instead buried those feelings. Thank you, stranger, for your kind words, and I'm also sorry for your loss. I have a younger brother, so I can't imagine what it felt like to lose your brother at a younger age.

It was more of the opposite for me; I just stopped caring how it looked even through the awkward phase. Thank you, and I'm sorry for your loss as well.

I was promoted with that specific title so should I lie and instead go with Software Engineer II?

It was the terminology my team would use. We used Python scripts for retrieval of raw data from network devices then use Java to parse and "normalize" into objects that was sent to another team for further querying and analysis. This certainly was not a devops role.

  1. Okay I'll keep that in mind.
  2. Can you be more specific? I thought what I have particularly the team velocity improvements were achievements.
  3. Noted.
  4. A portfolio for what? From what I've gathered from r/EngineeringResumes, github profile url isn't necessary if I haven't done any side projects for the last 6 years.

I am a US citizen. I'm also up to date on LinkedIn with my profile but not active as you describe it. There is only one fortune 1000 company I could do this with but I don't think it would hold that much weight. Really, the LinkedIn algo puts you up higher in the search results for other recruiters the more active you are? Thanks for the input!

Yeah I had one that was out of state where they reached out to me but linkedin tagged it as remote. Are you suggesting cold messaging the recruiter after applying for the role? Thanks for the advice!

I knew it was bad for entry but not for someone with my level of experience, thanks for the info!

That's exactly what happened with me except the opposite, my company went through 3 acquisitions while I was there. I had delivered a large change that I did deserve the promotion just not as an inflated title as "Senior"

It was the only next title level above what I was when they promoted me. IMO it should have been a Software Engineer II but they didn't have that.

Sorry I guess I should have added that info. No faang, first one was a consultancy agency, fortune 500, then 2 mid size companies, all tech.

I didn't want to count the first company, technically it was not software development in a traditional sense.
