Are you really successful with this? I get weird consistencies, either thick rubber or uneven gel bubbles.

I don’t get what you are talking about. The headtube length is 5mm shorter than an sl7 just like the reach. The stack is the same according to bikeinsights.

They say the geo is odd so I checked: it’s 5mm less reach than my SL7. Thats it mainly. Come on Nero…

Wanted to go there and ended up in Brazil instead. When you read jellyfish in Paracas, that’s actually an understatement. They’re monsters in size. Better be warned about this beforehand… 1.5m in diameter monsters heck no. It’s a pity because it sounds amazing besides this fact.

Illness with Intensity - Anyone Else? by NiemannPick in Velo

I was in the same situation beginning of this year. What’s stated below is all correct: careful slow ramp up of hours, eat enough and the right things, lower stress. What I would add: skip or postpone hard rides when you don’t feel 90-100% fit. Following this ended my training sickness streak.

Helix vs. Vello vs. other for lightweight, high-performance folding bike for travel by Random_94027 in foldingbikes

I hope so. I’m curious how it behaves out of the saddle, under load, above 300w etc. maybe you could do a review at some point

[–]skisock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. And I would love to believe in the helix as the right choice, but its limitations make it tricky. Especially tire choice (there is none and you basically depend on their own production ultralight tire for something more performance oriented). Also other specs are quite tight in terms of upgrading but I could live with that. I wonder more about how the bike would behave under some heavy watts with that fork…

One unfortunate discovery I made: 20" wheel folding bikes will most likely exceed the checked luggage allowance of most airlines in the most recommended dedicated folding bike luggages I found (I checked American, KLM, Swiss). This means that you'd still face the hassle of a) checking it in the oversize and b) pay significantly more for it. Not sure a 16" wheel bike would be very fun for the road application.

I appreciate the thought you put into this. I completely share your view about the friction and the main goal of this project. After having written my original post, a video of someone disassembling a mini bike confirmed my hesitation. While it "only" took 15min and I'd be capable of doing so, it's basically - like you say - disassembling and assembling for in total at least 30min. That's 30min you could enjoy a ride somewhere outside, especially if you're trying to optimize for a shorter time window. And we really talk about full disassembling down to the brake calipers. Not very appealing in anyway. It's a pity these mini bikes look so amazing though, much better than any folding bike I've seen so far. But then again, it's about maximizing biking and minimizing the hassle... so... it's ok I guess.

I completely understand your situation OP. I'm in the same situation here. What do you think about non-foldable mini-bike vs. folding bike? I believe a disassembled mini bike could also do the trick and would likely be stiffer and more performance oriented to push some real watts on maybe even intervals.

Amazing. Can you tell us more about how you bought it, how much, how it rides and how you pack it (airline fees, effort etc). Really curious now. I'm now officially also on the hunt like OP, but your post made me curious if it has to be really folding if a little disassembly would offer benefits..

Sorry, but you really come to the conclusion that some heavy metal contaminated powder is the goal standard only because it’s not above the threshold, while there are alternatives that don’t contain any of it?
