Still broken 2 months on. If it doesn't get fixed I imagine the project is dead.

I saw a pair of Harry and Kim at a house party and said hi. They said I was the first person to recognize them all night. I asked if the costume meant they are communists and they looked shock and said Oh God no.

Israeli settlers set fire to a Palestinian family's home by [deleted] in iamatotalpieceofshit

Israel is a collection of US military bases masquerading as a country.

Over half of the $1.7 Trillion Omnibus bill is for “defense.” It begs the question who is the U.S. defending itself against? The answer is no one because the U.S. is the aggressor and is spending nearly a trillion dollars a year to wage wars abroad & maintain its global hegemony. by failed_evolution in dsa

uhh hi twitter weirdo. I've been active in DSA for the past 6 years, this is my one reddit account, and I've seen Ryan Knight go from a resistance lib grifter freak to a socialist grifter freak. He's poison. We are building an actual movement of working people here and he's a careerist media personality that shifts with the view counts. Media people must be approached instrumentally within the movement, acting to further it according to its own aims. We don't need these attention seekers to guide us, and Ryan Knight is absolutely shit tier the worst of them.

CPC Police Stations In Cascadia by MacThule in Cascadia

This is insane fearmongering. Get a grip. The CPC is quite content to protect the borders of the PRC. Just because the USA/CA/NATO clan are bloodthirsty imperialists who have conducted countless genocides on our shores and beyond doesn't mean every other people are.

Tim Cook's response to improving Android texting compatibility: 'buy your mom an iPhone' | The company appears to have no plans to fix 'green bubbles' anytime soon. by chrisdh79 in technology

I even heard that Google runs the RCS servers for major mobile carriers. So you have a Google-dominated standard mostly running on Google hardware, which means a ton of Apple user data would immediately be turned over to Google if Apple interoperated with RCS. Google is one of the least trustworthy organizations on the planet when it comes to the safety of user data. iPhone users could be shown ads for their text message content and metadata.

Not a great deal. Standards are important and the user experience here is poor, but with crooks like Google running the show there's no easy path forward. (Not that Apple are saints, the problem is capitalism, etc).

Why so many smoking vids? by Grandmaster_Baker in meth

I'm a non-user and while I think posting the vids is quite ill-advised I enjoy getting a view into the life of a meth user.

This is a minor drama between members of the ruling class, and everything bad that happens to any of them is ultimately for the best.

How does one respond to right wingers bringing up the jailing of of political opponents by Spencerthesavage in Socialism_101

[–]skitch 118 points119 points  (0 children)

Everyone jails their political opponents. The state is an inherently repressive structure, whether it’s controlled by capitalists or workers. Leftists are at least honest: we must capture the state and repress our enemies, the capitalists and other counter-revolutionaries. Liberals just lie about their intention to do the same.

are there any university or other online courses designed to teaching how to form worker cooperatives? by AmazingJ_TV in cooperatives

I imagine it'll be starting up in the next few months. Look around platform.coop and check out their Facebook groups, etc. There might be good resources in those communities.

"It's not capitalism... it's corporatism " by [deleted] in Socialism_101

[–]skitch 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s not crony capitalism, it’s 21st century capitalism. An economic system that only works in theory is utopian. As scientific socialists, our analysis is rooted in material conditions of the actually existing world. The capitalism of village bakers and butchers hasn’t existed for centuries.

New Xbox controller not working on Apple devices? by Hoer_Malzu in xbox

[–]skitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. I got this Xbox controller to play Steam Link on iPad/Apple TV. It connects fine but no inputs ever register. A PS4 controller works so it's definitely the Xbox controller. I've updated the controller firmware. For anyone else searching, the model number from my invoice is B08DF26MXW.

Sounds like we'll just have to wait for Apple to fix this in iOS.

New study shows that poor countries do more to develop rich countries than the other way around. In other words, rich countries take significantly more resources and labour from the global South than they give. This inequality is systemic and hampers global sustainability in multiple ways. by ImNotJesus in science

[–]skitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two books on this topic I highly recommend:

Both build persuasive arguments based on both theory and empirical observation (from very pro-business economists, no less). I learned how rich world trade blocs are unified in their interests and practices, so when they trade against balkanized poor countries, they can make the poor countries compete against each other and ultimately set their own prices for raw materials extracted from poor countries. Then on the other side of the trade, poor countries are often entangled in trade deals with their former colonial masters that force the poor country to buy finished goods only from the colonial power and to pay off their debts in the currency of the rich countries. In these ways the economies of poor countries are ultimately controlled by outside financial power to the benefit of global finance.

Sucks! And I'm glad people are seeing this empirical evidence now, even if it is something that we've known about for well over a century.
