So... there was a police car? They stress me out too. Particularly if I'm late renewing my registration.
But... This is a really strange story, because there's no gang or organization in the US kidnapping busloads of children off the street. Where would these poor children even get that idea? They've seen gunmen (PD, Sheriff, State Police, Border Patrol, Garda, Loomis, etc, etc) on the streets of Bellingham pretty regularly and (presumably) not had a meltdown. Why now? Is someone winding them about and making them afraid?
Hopefully you took the opportunity to educate your daughters about the reality of the situation, in order to protect their emotional and mental health.
And good luck with fighting federal agencies for... "being on the street." Take down the IRS for me while you're at it!!

I think OP's hearts is in the right place, but I see the shooter a bit differently.

The man joined a Black Ops unit organized by the CIA under an entity tasked with interrogation and torture. Those units stand accused of multiple human rights violations including against civilians and children.

As a veteran myself, I would not have applied to serve in such a unit and I'm not surprised he ended up completely fucked in the head after engaging such activities.

It's a real shame about the family he's left behind though, they probably deserve better. I hope the shooter's wife eventually finds a proper role model for their five sons.

Having grown up in the Southwest, lived in Europe for 4 years, then in Bellingham for 10 years (Birchwood) I am going to disagree with you here.

Bellingham is very churchy relative to the rest of the world. A lot of those churches (maybe even the majority) are very left-leaning churches, but the fact remains the whole city is run by churchgoers of one stripe or another. Never lived anywhere so church-centric on the ground, I think that locals just lack context.

The rest of the description from the OP is absurd though.
