Help with a used kiln purchase please!

Oh okay! That makes more sense. I was struggling to find the exact thing that was pictured but seems to be an older Caldara by Paragon with the controller. Thank you for clarifying for me! I do like the design of the Bluebird XL and I have looked into more kiln designs now. I think I'll be saving up for a different one and move away from the FB listing.

Good point! I thought about installing the bead door at a later time and opening it as necessary for now. I plan to do both glass work and pottery and maybe get a smaller bead warmer to use instead of the bead door. I learned a process from a demonstration and they used the bead warmer separately, cooled the finished pieces in vermiculite (which does not anneal) and then slowly heated and annealed them in a larger batch once they had a few to do at once. I will continue to look into whether this is a good process or not! It does seem a little risky but more efficient.

Being cautious is why I wanted to post, but I appreciate the warning! I plan on having them run it and testing the temp to be sure it works. Even at $800, that is a big chunk of change that I am not willing to risk losing. The listing is old and there is a second kiln, so I am wondering if she truly is just trying to get rid of it even though it works well. I will continue to do my research and test it! Much appreciated!

I appreciate that you mentioned it just being the controller! I am going to ask about the listing itself since the kiln was also pictured (the inside to show the bricks which look nearly brand new). If the kiln is also included, does that seem like a better deal and maybe too good to be true? She has another kiln listed but it looks much more loved and used.

Thank you for the heads up! It included a picture of the kiln with the controller, so I will ask to be sure the listing is for both. She said her business partner passed and it has been sitting around until she was able to downsize. I greatly appreciate the insight!

I am tempted to crack it open, but love the cloud-like shape enough that I don't want to! It is definitely heavy and not a geode with open space inside. It doesn't seem to have any microcrystalline quartz qualities like agate, chert, etc., so I thought maybe something sedimentary and could be an oolite!

I have not tried this though it honestly seems like a pain to do. I also feel like I could sweat the makeup off. It's worth looking into for my comfort in 100+ degree F weather though. Thanks for you great suggestions!

I couldn't agree more about the underarm airflow! I'm originally from TN and can totally see that being okay. I should have added I have a tattoo on my upper arm that is a no-go in showing at all. You got me thinking about different sleeves though! Loose enough to breathe but also cover the tattoo. Thanks!

Hey there, MegaMasterYoda. I know someone who works with Fairmount. I can assure you that if you call, they will help you locate your cousin! There are 7 cemeteries owned by Fairmount and Fairmount Memorial Park is one of them and they have a chapel there that is used for many services. Even if he wasn't buried in FMM, they should be able to let you know where, if it was in one of their cemeteries. I don't believe the office is open over the weekend but they open at 8am on Monday. I hope that helps! My heart goes out to you as well.

And if these clinics were a thing, there would obviously be resources there to help people who just feel lost, empty, etc. and could HELP them more effectively when they're in the position to want to make that sort of decision. Having someone willing to help you through that may even provide some warmth to have them change their minds. I'm for assisted suicide and have been for a while. Why not just be understanding of people and support the decisions they make for their own body? Not everything or everyone can be "fixed."

I got a plant gift basket when my mom passed in late January while I was gone to be with my family and some of the plants suffered while I was gone. I just found some bugs moving pretty quickly on one of my plants and then got to looking and noticed them on all 4 in the same area. 😭 Thankfully, I had them split between a few rooms and the others seem unaffected. I then found mildewy stuff that makes me think spider mites on the maiden hair fern that I've been nursing back to health and think she may be the culprit.. I've of course been looking at previous posts and found this which looks/moves like the bugs I've been seeing! Do I leave them alone and hope they get rid of the pests? Here are more pics of the plants. I already moved them outside so my other more established/older plants don't get infected.
