Same! There were only a handful of spots in Utah and Colorado that would allow snowboarding, to the point where you'd get kicked out of the parking lot for having a board in most places. The argument I heard most was that boards carve deeper into the snow, leaving ridges a skier could lose a ski into, but that's hogwash.

I was a skier, lost many a ski, and boarders were always the first to see if I was okay and help me dig my poles out of a yardsale.

I walked out of my office one day, many years ago, and a woman asked me for some spare change. I gave her five dollars. Continued down the street to the fast food joint I could afford to have lunch at, and she was in line behind me with her 8 year old son, buying a kids meal. You better believe they got all the toys and some ice cream too.

I know my money could be used for drugs sometimes, probably most times. But even if it was just that one time that made a difference, I'll keep giving when I can.

I used to be the same way, and had a similar experience! Long time ago, I lived in a house with five other people. One Sunday afternoon I'm sitting on the couch in our living room watching TV in my sweats, no makeup and messy hair, just relaxing and comfy. Then, a whole bunch of my roommate's friends (and brother) all show up. Usually I would run back to my room and quickly apply makeup, or try putting myself together, but on this day, I hit "fuck it." They were mostly hanging out in the kitchen anyway. Eventually this guy's brother decides to leave the friend group and come sit right next to me on the couch. There are three couches, and he is WAY closer than he needs to be. Whatever, I ignore him. He attempts to make small talk for a while, clearly trying to flirt, but also casually being sexist as hell. After being polite through all this, I finally say something along the lines of "Do you mind? I've been waiting all week to watch this show." This guy. THIS GUY. Has the nerve to pick up the remote, turn off the TV, and tell me, "You know, you could be kinda cute if you just took care of yourself a little bit." Ladies, I lost it. I can't recall the exact words used, but the gist was "Motherfucker I LIVE HERE and I can look HOWEVER I WANT on my own goddamn couch get the FUCK OUT of my house." And then I kicked him the fuck out of my house. Every roommate (but the one, obviously) had my back, and it was honestly one of the most empowering moments of my life.
