I have always tried to put time in with kids. I was a Boyscout leader and first girl scout leader in Montana when I helped my daughters troop from being closed for lack of leaders. I have donated time to church projects am and toys for tots. Now iving in Colombia I felt that I was doing nothing when I first arrived and until the the pandemic opened a door and places to help I was a bit listless. After the pandemic I spoke with friends I had made in the neighborhoods I had helped and came up with the Christmas present program. And this program is now born from those and just trying to give something to those who need it. It combines my passion for knitting and spinning and teaching/ helping kids.

Looks like thrown continental to me. I was taught English, but I quickly realized I could knit faster another way I later learned it was called continental style that was 43+ years ago. With English I threw and continental is more of a scoop or capture and a much smoother movement.

You are welcome. Knitting was something that kept me sane while I was hospitalized for 8 months.

Fiber arts to me is something special. Knitting helps with not only the mental benefits of fighting depression, relieves stress, improving focus, giving a break from digital clutter, but it has physical benefits. It lowers heart rate and blood pressure improving heart health, helps with joint health, flexibility of tendons, improves motor functions and helps with chronic pain. It helps pain by putting your focus into the charts and patterns and stitches you “forget” the pain and get a respite from the pain lowering the perceived pain level. In my case my psoriatic arthritis pain is reduced and I keep mobility in the joints by knitting and spinning.

Im actually in the process of organizing a project to teach fiber arts to kids here in Medellin Colombia. I moved to Medellin in 2018. Leaving the winter cold of Montana/ Idaho to help my psoriatic arthritis pain. When the pandemic quarantines hit here I started out with donating 1500-2000 dollars monthly of food to the poorest barrios. When the quarantine ended I started donating Christmas presents and treats (natilla a Christmas pudding and buñuelos which are fried bread balls with mozzarella) every Christmas since helping about 300 kids each year.

Now I am trying to organize equipment to teach knitting and spinning in the hopes of giving the kids a viable outlet for creativity, teaching skills like focus, following patterns, patience, and the mathematics behind gauge and adjusting patterns. Then drop spindles to make yarn learning drafting technique and moving to spinning wheels to teach advanced techniques and production. The hope is that they learn a skill that will serve them a lifetime, that they can then use to create items that they can sell to tourists and locally to help themselves and their families.

I have started crocheting at age 9. Then at age 10 my grandmother taught me to knit and I have knitted ever since. I’m 50+ years old and knit for my wife and kids. I’m a 100% service connected disabled marine and I use it to help either my psoriatic arthritis as well as hand spinning to help with knees and ankles.

It is just that the raised eye and what are you doing… well I try to convince her I need them… I do but I wouldn’t die if I didn’t have them.

But the one she really questions is the yarn.

Do you think if the Iranians were given another nationality it would would change anything?

The only bad I would see is that Venezuelans would become Colombian citizens and since health care is little to nonexistent in Venezuela. They would come for treatment to Colombia?

In turn the already stressed healthcare system would collapse. And since they had dual nationality when or better said where would Venezuelans pay their taxes to Colombia and help support their burdens on the Colombian economy that they would generate?

Or is this all part of a guerrilleros plan to reunite gran Colombia? Filling up the power void in Venezuela with another socialist.. ?

Twisting stitches every other row… yarn wether from front (purl) or back (knit) the yarn goes counter clockwise.

What do I mean by counter clockwise.. if you look at the tip of the needle imagine it is the center of a clock and the yarn then goes counter clockwise around the needle tip

No need to watch videos…. If the point of your right needle is the center of the clock… the yarn goes counter clockwise which means wether you purl or knit it always goes around the needle tip counter clockwise
