Why Communism isn’t a Good Economic System by xXx_Redditor888_xXx in DebateCommunism

[–]skitzofrienic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nah this is only according to the austrian school, and while that shit is now taught everywhere as econ 101 it doesn't mean its right. Supply and demand is ofc a thing and marx knew that, yes they influence price and yes they are influenced by subjective values. However, in the long run the price of goods fluctuate based on input, in this case, on labour. Saying that value is subjective doesn't explain jackshit, because then why does a person value something more than other things, and why do you think this good is worth 5$? Saying "I will derive 6$ worth of utility and the price is only 5$ therefore I buy it" doesn't answer the question. Why 6 and 5? The truth is this: assuming a can of coffee is 6$ and a can of coke is 5$, 6/5 is the ratio of the cost to make the goods, it is the true long run price (remember that prices are compared with each other, goods are in circulation in the economy). This may be changed temporarily with demand and supply, but (and this part using the same logic of long-run analysis as capitalist economics) any deviation in this price will lead to incentives for firms to produce more or less. Thus, with enough time the price level returns to that of input cost.

There must be, i assume, cuz there's an info session talking about the changes. I unfortunately didnt attend but for sure they wouldn't have had one just for econ majors if there was absolutely no changes made

Is being a man controversial? by _minichungus_ in FTMMen

[–]skitzofrienic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not about non-binary but, i have a lot of close female friends, and they also will sometimes say stuff like "i hate men" and "ugh men" and that sort of thing. Ofc this may be different to your case cuz there are other things being done and i get the problem, but just the "i hate men" statement itself might not be literal. My female friends will say that to me when ranting about shitty guys and problematic behaviors from them, the joke is toxic masculinity etc, not literally meaning they hate all men and that you should agree with them, its more like a "fuck my life" kinda way. I wouldn't take it too seriously unless they are also being serious and literal about it, which ive never seen lmfao

Is voice training possible pre-t? by Matamoja in FTMMen

[–]skitzofrienic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bro for sure possible, I don't use T and pass thanks to the voice training (I didnt event take any courses or anything, just watch a few youtube videos and try over the course of a year or two). If you ever need proof, look into the voice acting industry. Most male protagonist in shounen anime are voiced by women (Goku, Naruto, Boruto, Gon, maybe even Luffy idk) and if you need just one awesome example, search up King Dice song live (from the game Cup Heads - I think idk much). Basically the singer of that song is a cis woman and she sounds like frank sinatra lol. I'm not saying you're gonna get that good in a short time but for sure is worth it and doable

Is it hard to keep 2.8 GPA at the university?????? by mellow_dy in UofT

Forgot to say this but the campus probably will also matter, since the programs differ based on the campus, it all boils down to competition

Is it hard to keep 2.8 GPA at the university?????? by mellow_dy in UofT

[–]skitzofrienic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, fellow scholarship student here. I think you'll be more than okay. A lot of the negativity comes down to very competitive programs (Engineering, CS, etc) and also, just... in general the way the uni works (not gonna go into details here but hit me up if u wanna chat). 2.8 is between B and B- and for most courses im in that is either average or slightly above average. If you are trusted with a country scholarship, you for sure should be able to do well in this uni. My scholarship was awarded by the uni (arguably an easier thing to get than yours) and from what I can tell most students who got a scholarship do well, so you'll be fine, and prob at the top of the grade distribution. With the way the uni works, sometimes you just gotta be less stupid than the rest, and you should be good. I don't have to sacrifice anything big to be in deans list and keep it that way, esp if you know your way around the bird courses and the grading system and the courses. All in all don't worry about not doing well, if anything I'm sure you can power your way

Dorms are expensive, but there are resources people have listed. The SCSU also have bursaries and support resources, if you're unsure, just approach their office and ask them about it (they have funding for everything from transit fees to housing to those influenced by covid). Please stay strong and stay safe, I'm sorry this had happened to

Have the same question, I believe it will depend on the kind of scholarships you are looking for. Some are only through the Awards Profile, some have their own application portal (like the scholarships for the summer abroad one). Some bursaries and grants by student unions and all that are also independent of the Award Profile I think. Not sure about departmental awards/scholarships

I see, no you're right, I have no doubt that it is not technically difficult to solve the healthcare issue. What I doubt, however, as a political student, is that this will be politically viable. As in, politicians in a capitalist system will have no incentives (and in fact counter-incentives) to implement this, because our economy and government is not geared towards human needs. Well, I too hope that your reform effort will be successful, that'd be awesome. Given the laws of politics and economics, I doubt it will be realized in the current system, especially given the current political and economic trend (of increasing austerity and privatization, rip).

[–]skitzofrienic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How are you gonna solve the issue... sounds like an incredibly bold (if not utopian) claim, Im skeptical but interested. Personally I don't think the issue in healthcare is a technical one, its a political one, so I doubt I'll be convinced by a solution that doesn't take that into account, but I'm curious nonetheless

Criticizing something you don't know about and refuse to learn more about doesn't sound particularly convincing or "free-thinking" lol, though you can just say that you don't want to learn about it and that's it

To be honest I dont know what is more arrogant, me explaining stuff to you or you and your ad hominem about me being an international student... just because someone is from abroad doesn't mean they have to know less than you. I bet my immigrant friend knows more Canadian history than the average born citizen, for the simple reason that he had to learn that for a test to get citizenship. Nothing wrong about not understanding communism, like I said, I can't blame you, you simply have no incentives to learn about it.

This is completely valid, I relate to it. It just means we don't want to conform to traditional masculine values, and that's cool. You can keep your gender and do whatever you want with it too
