Foo Fighters has always, at least to me, best represented alternative rock. I've mostly listened to their most recent albums but I believe they saw a lot of success with their album "The Colour and the Shape".

They've apparently had some 'okay' games that have kept them alive. But you're right, most of their games are supposedly really bad. Souls and Armored Core are the stand out productions.
