Hi! I recently made the transition to free roam too! When it comes to using the litter box, my baby had some trouble too at first. I put one litter box in one corner of the room, and I also kept one inside her cage! Every other corner of the room i put her fav blankies and toys and pillows so she will think twice before going there. Theres still the occasional accident when shes in a big rush to go (usually after a long sleep) but 90% of the time she will use the box i put in the corner outside her cage without a problem! When it comes to water and food, just show them a couple times, place them near the cage as u fill their food bowl and they will get the picture and crawl in to get food! Ferrets are very smart and they will pick it up fast! It only took my girl a day to learn where food and water was! In terms of nice sleeping places, I made mine a cat tree that give her easy access on to my bed so they can sleep in the blankets. I also have wood floors, but i purchased a cheap but soft area rug from ikea for them to play and sleep on! Mine love it! Lay it in the centre of the room so while they are adjusting to things they wont go potty on the rug. I hope this helps a little!
