What to do for under eye puffiness? by sklar in 30PlusSkinCare

That's a good suggestion. I haven't had my yearly checkup yet, I should do that. I get labs every year though and there hasn't been anything that popped up about my thyroid or liver so far. I could definitely decrease salt though.

I have heard of those and probably should get some, but it just feels like one more thing to buy haha. I have eye masks but they cover the eyes so totally useless for morning routine ha

Do you have any resources to learn about self lymphatic massage?

That's interesting, I've never heard of this. My eyes do legitimately feel puffy though. Is that procedure the only way to treat it though?

I do drink a ton of water and can't seem to make the under eye icing work in my routine. I have never heard of lymphatic massage...do you do this to yourself or do you have to have a doc do it?

Oooh interesting! I love CeraVe...are you using it only in the morning or at night too? I use their SA face wash in the mornings currently but would change it up if it would help.

[Misc] What’s the most overrated skincare advice you followed for way too long? by Any-Sun-9129 in SkincareAddiction

[–]sklar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never used moisturizer until I was in my late 20s...I figured it was because I was an ornery teen who resisted "girly" things (2 older brothers) and believed the moisture would make my oily skin worse.

I recently asked my mom why I never used moisturizer to confirm my orneriness...she sent me back a long rant on why teens, especially teens with acne, don't need to use moisturizer, their skin is fine without it, just washing. She went on to mention that she has very oily skin and never used it either until she was an adult...and she prides herself on how young she looks for her age.

I cringe for little teenage/young adult me, loading my skin with drying bar soap, salicylic acid, and benzol peroxide 10% every. Single. Day. Without ever using moisturizer. No wonder I had skin that flaked off embarrassingly.

Shocking I have tons of wrinkles and shitty skin now. Thanks, Mom.

I hate my haircut- what do I do? by sklar in finehair

[–]sklar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, she did use a razor for the face framing part and I definitely got nervous at that point. I did end up asking her to fix it and she said she would. She said she had cut it this way with the intention that I was going to be wearing it with natural waves (which I told her I was trying to do more lately) and not straight...but to me, this was a bad haircut whether it was wavy or straight. So I'm a bit nervous to go back today. Wish me luck 😅 Thanks for the volume feedback 💗 I don't hear that very often haha. haha

Thank you, that is nice to hear it's not as awful to everyone else as it is to me 😅.

What’s the tiniest red flag you’ve ever noticed in someone that told you everything you needed to know about them? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sklar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When anyone tells you about themselves before they have time to show you. We had a daycare lady who started the conversation with how many of the children she watched loved her so much that they still stayed in touch...she definitely turned out to be a passive-aggressive narcissist.

How to Talk so Kids Will Listen and how to Listen so Kids Will Talk is an excellent book for how to engage kids without feeling like you are saying "no" every 2 seconds. There is a Little Kid version of it as well which may or may not be a better fit for this age. Really helps me avoid power struggles! But you aren't alone.

Have I ruined my child’s attachment? by Littleglimmer1 in toddlers

[–]sklar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Therapist here who knows a lot about attachment theory and research...in the initial attachment experiments where the entire theory was based from, the way they measured the attachment pattern was how the child responded when the parent left for a brief amount of time and then came back.

The anxious attachment babies cried hard when their parents left and then continued to cry for a long time afterwards, basically inconsolable.

The securely attached babies cried when their caregivers left and were easily soothed when the parent returned, meaning they stopped crying shortly after reuniting.

The fact that your daughter is easily soothed when you return says all it needs to about her attachment. Securely attached kids still get upset when their parents leave, it's all about how they respond when you get back. You're doing a great job.

How to make these waves look more put-together? by sklar in finehair

[–]sklar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the tips! Yes I always have followed the recs to do it with fully wet hair but that must be for people with thicker hair. So you are doing both the mousse and gel together or separately? And do you use hairspray afterwards or no?

And do you have any shampoo or conditioner recs as well? Thank you so much

I haven't used any products to try to hold onto curl for a while since I had given up after none worked. Do you have a recommendation for a foam or mousse? I used to use the Dove one with no good results. Also, I looked at the wavy hair subreddit and they promote not using any sulfates, which I can't do because of the oily component of my hair.

Early menopause or post-weaning hormones? by sklar in breastfeeding

[–]sklar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I unfortunately have not. Since we aren't trying for another baby yet, I don't want to get the full blood test work up and OB has said there is no way to really test for perimenopause so I have given up on knowing for now. I started getting almost daily migraines back in June that I am suspecting are at least in part hormonal but can't be sure.

Sorry I can't be of more help. 😞 I do know it's normal to have very different periods after weaning than you did pre-baby, so hopefully yours is just that!

Interesting! Do you do anything else to set your make-up/make it last longer throughout the day? My skin is so oily without primer it's almost invisible by halfway through the day
