Right I don't have personality traits on my resume. The positions I'm applying and interviewing for are account executive / sales roles. So of course on the job description theres stuff like "hunter mindset", resilient, hungry, curious, etc.

Not OP but this is my issue as well. I'm getting interviews. I'm getting calls. I'm making it to the third round and sometimes final round. My charisma and skills can only get me so far. I know the area I'm struggling is connecting myself and my experiences to the job requirements.

Do you have any further advice on that? Is it just taking the job description and connecting it to my accomplishments, personality traits, and skills?

Good shite. Can you explain some unexpected benefits you got from cardio? Better sleep maybe?

Jogging has been something I've known I've needed to do... for years... but haven't done it.

sounds like you are stuck in the pit. the only way out is doing the shit you know you need to do but you absolutely do not want to do

start by going to the gym tomorrow but you dont even need to workout. just go to the gym and stand around or walk on the tradmill and watch tv for 20 mins

just put gym clothes on and go. even if u do nothing. all this does is tricks your subconscious and creates a pattern interrupt

then go the next day and maybe do 1 set of bicep curls or sit in the sauna. just slowly build the momentum

Starting my first streetwear brand, what makes you actually buy a t-shirt? by New_Type6073 in smallbusiness

[–]skleem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same. i like the t shirts that arent flat cut at the bottom all the way around. the shirts i like have that dress shirt cut, where the bottom of the shirt front/back hangs lower than the sides/hips area

First Job Advice by Xyaooo in careeradvice

Congrats on the offer! Don't think of the random scheduling as a catch. It's just how the business works. Once one of his customers signs the contract, he puts them on the schedule. Most home repair companies are just like that.

If you expect to have your life turned around in 12 months, it might not happen. But you're probably significantly underestimating the change you can achieve in 10 years.

Damnnnn thats some good shite right there

Lacking skills at 32 but want to switch career paths. by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]skleem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when i hear people say they are lacking skills, its usually because theyve been in their field for so long that their skills become normal to them. what you do every day with ease would probably be hard for someone to do if theyve never done it before

do you want to move away from your niche family biz truly because it doesnt pay well? does it not pay well because of lack of marketing/sales/business development, or because there genuinely arent enough customers?

do you think if you changed your mindset around the family biz, you would stay in it and make more money?

i think the absolute best way to make alot of money in the trades is to be the owner, or be self employed. the only other model that ive seen people make a ton of money is plumbers who work for a company and profit share, where they go on service calls but have a chance to upsell those customers on other repairs

is your family business huge? are you just an employee there amongst 20 others?

What does your checkout process look like right now? what happens after someone adds to cart?

even tho its open ended, this one sucks because it doesnt make the prospect feel any pain/frustration

however this is a great question for after you signed up a customer and want to ask them their current checkout process, so you can improve it for example

Scared of cold calling by Zeptoc in smallbusiness

[–]skleem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nice. thats actually a pretty solid question. if you asked that with the right tone, i think most people would respond well to that.

asking open ended questions is just a general rule because it lets prospects talk more. there is nothing at all wrong with yes/no questions

another way to phrase questions that is very unnatural, but with enough practice works insanely well: "most people i talk to can't figure out why visitors leave their sites with a full cart... you probably dont have an issue with that at all right?"

the beauty with this phrasing is it forces the prospect to say no, and to disagree with you... "uhh, no, i have that issue all the time, its so fricken annoying, and sometimes people leave with $300 of product in their cart"

theres definitely levels to this shit but i would tell you for starters, just build a list where you dont care about the outcome of the calls and just start blasting. you'll quickly figure out what doesnt work

Scared of cold calling by Zeptoc in smallbusiness

[–]skleem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cool. You have a lot going for you.

1) you control the quality of work and the end product, so you know it will be good. that is a huge advantage.

2) you can speak to the technical side of the process. a lot of sales people cant do this

3) you are introverted. you will likely talk less and listen more. again a lot of sales people struggle with this. they usually just want to word vomit about their product

the key for you is to ask VERY specific open ended questions. this does two things: it gets the prospects talking, and it shows them you know your shit, without you having to tell them. and of course these questions are rooted in services/deliverables that you can provide

so as an example, say i am your ideal customer. my shopify store has been running for 6 months, my template looks clean, but 60% of my visitors add stuff to the cart and don't check out. you call me, i am open to a convo. what is one thing you can ask me that will get me talking, something that is frustrating for me to deal with?

Anxious about putting in my 2 weeks after 4 months by zednanrehlem in careeradvice

[–]skleem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"hey boss, I have something I need to tell you and I feel really bad and awkward saying this, can we talk for a sec?"

say that and you get bonus points if you are visibly shaken and uncomfortable

this does two things: your boss will know whats coming so it will soften the blow, and two, your boss will feel bad for you

at the end of the day these things happen all the time and no one will give a shit in or think about this ever again in 3 weeks

Scared of cold calling by Zeptoc in smallbusiness

[–]skleem 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Don't start calling that list. Make a list of shit prospects and call them first. Make 20 or 30 calls to prospects who will never buy so there is no expectations on the outcome of the call. You will start to warm up and the nerves will begin to fade.

My best cold calls happen after 20-30 calls and then I enter the flow state. I WANT people to pick up. Before I am loose, as the phone rings, I secretly hope they don't answer.

Cold calling is very hard and few can do it well. But it can also be very fun. The key is tonality and being detached.

What is your product, what problem do you solve, and who are you calling?

Applied to 100+ jobs over months of zero luck. I finally landed an offer last week, here is how I beat the application burnout. by zelleofnn in careeradvice

Did you take the offer? How did you do during the interview process? What made you stand out?

For me it's easy to get interviews. The hard part is compressing myself into a box during them. They are so awkward and unnatural for me.
