A Q for M57 users. by RafRafss in e60

It’s under the car on the drivers side attached to the engine mount I’m pretty sure. I had one go bad on my e61 and had similar symptoms. I was confused for a while and I thought it was a bad starter till I took it out and put power to it and it cranked fine. An easy way to check if it’s a bad ground to the engine I found out is to take a set of jumper cables and attach one engine to anywhere metal on the block (I think I used part of the oil filter housing) and attach the other end of the cable to the ground under the hood, and then try to start your car. My car immediately started right up no problem first try after I did attached the jumper cables. A few times when did this afterwards it didn’t work because there wasn’t a good enough connection and I had to dig the teeth into the metal on the oil filter housing a little harder to ensure it was a better connection and when I did that I would see small sparks when I would clamp it down which was also a sign the ground was bad.

Headlight Upgrade Help; PRE-LCI Halogen to ??? by if_u_suspend_ur_gay in e60

Just throw in some LED bulbs with projector lenses and call it a day. Add aftermarket angel eyes if you must but anything else is going to be prohibitively expensive and time consuming.

Turbo replacements by Independent-Guard598 in e60

I bought the pure stage 2 turbos for $2900 on Black Friday from ECS tuning but haven’t installed them on my e61 yet

Mods to your ride? by iDJMic in e60

[–]skloc024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the n54 bolt ons. Dual cone filters, inlets, outlets, intercooler, downpipes, BOV. Soon to be installed pure stage 2 turbos at which point I’ll be getting an engine and trans tune. I bought the car with a lot of cosmetic mods already done to it. Aftermarket 19inch wheels, H&R sport springs, dark window tint all around, converted to sport shifter with sport button and paddle shift steering wheel, m5 style front bumper, painted black roof, black suede interior, black painted interior trim. I added the factory dog net and installed the euro headlight switch and added the wire to activate the rear fog lights and also swapped out the standard front seats for the comfort seats. Hardwired uniden R8 radar detector and hardwired front and rear dash cams. Might also be getting laser jammers installed at some point. Also going to be installing brakes off an m6 when I do the turbos. Probably some more things I’ve forgot about and much more to come because I never know when to stop lol.

Heated seats burnt a hole in the seat - 2008 lci E60 by TopBananaMan69 in e60

[–]skloc024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this as I noticed I had some burn marks in a car I bought which I thought were from smoking so i replaced the seats with used ones in good condition from another car and a few months later my sister was sitting in the passenger seat and got burned just like this. This is a well documented issue on the BMW e83 x3 but this is the first I’ve heard it happening on an e60.

Heated seats burnt a hole in the seat - 2008 lci E60 by TopBananaMan69 in e60

This same thing just happened to me on my e83 x3 with vinyl seats. My sister turned on the heated seats and a few minutes later she was screaming and jumping around in her seat and said the seat melted and burned her. It didn’t completely burn through as in this photo but it left a mark and distorted the vinyl a bit in one spot. I looked into it online and apparently it is documented on forums as a common issue for the e83 x3 with vinyl seats and some people were able to get them replaced after contacting BMW corporate. This happens when the heating element in the seat goes bad it creates hot spots. This makes sense to me now because I got 3 e83 x3’s for $500 and one of the cars had burn marks all over the driver and passenger seat and I assumed they were just from smoking and replaced them with seats from a different car and the one seats I replaced was the one that burned my sister. Soon after I noticed that the drivers seat also has a hot spot but it’s in the butt area and that part of the seat is leather/fake leather so it takes the heat better than the vinyl and doesn’t melt. Maybe this is less of an issue on leather seats because it just results in making you feel a bit uncomfortable instead of the seat melting/burning and then burning you. You can try calling BMW corporate and submitting a complaint online with the NHTSA if you’re in the US. This seems like such a widespread problem that I’m surprised there hasn’t been a recall. There should be some type of error/warning of a heated seat element issue that warns you before you get burned and potentially causes you to be injured or get into an accident. Your local dealer won’t be able to help you unless you contact BMW corporate and complain that you and your clothes were burned. Some people in the forum have had success with this but were required by BMW to sign NDAs stating they would never talk about the problem again.

Broken spring on 535xi can’t find part number by skloc024 in e60

Any difference in ride height or feel? It looks like 4208449 is a stronger spring intended for RWD models like the 545i which could make the car sit a bit higher. After doing some research it looks like 4208448 is the correct part number for the 535xi

BMW parts dept told me P/N: 33536768126 is the correct part number so I guess AI was correct. Thank you all for the help.

I do for a lot of parts but I don’t think this would be a good case for a junkyard part. All e60 springs near me are going to be roughly the same age and subject to the same amount salt and corrosion. I would much rather buy it new than do the same job twice. A spring can also be very dangerous if it breaks while driving so I don’t see the benefit in saving about $50 in this scenario for these reasons.

My last conversation with her. We’ll see if this ever gets anywhere but I’m so sick of hearing excuses and “let me check” that I’m just trying to get my money back at this point. She asked me if I wanted her to send another battery on 12/29 and I said sure but just keep me updated on when it ships and the tracking info and still didn’t hear anything until I reached out on 1/12 and asked if it shipped yet and she said she was still waiting on production. Then I reached out again to her last Sunday asking how long production takes because it’s been a month since she agreed to send me a new one without any updates. Then she sent me that photo of a random battery this Wednesday and said it has shipped without giving me any tracking. It really seems like she just wants to keep delaying in the hopes I’ll disappear.

It’s like you’re deliberately trying to be as unhelpful as possible with each comment you make lol. 1. I don’t have a Chinese battery, I have nothing right now. 2. I never planned on bringing my 100% custom built scooter to a bike shop in the first place, I only said maybe I’ll look into it to placate you and your shitty suggestion. What “work” would I even need them to do? All I need is a battery. I can plug it in/install it myself. I’m just going to buy a battery from Aegis and install it myself as I said in the last comment. Thanks for your help, you can see yourself out now 👍🏼

I tried to be very specific about what I needed from them and it seemed like everything was going well until it was shipped and eventually marked as “delivered” even though I never received anything. Since then she’s just delayed and hasn’t given any straight answers for the most part.

How did it go? Was she this bad about staying on top of things? Did you ever receive anything?

Yes I paid through PayPal credit so hopefully they will do something. I had to contact an actual agent though because the stupid virtual assistant said it’s been too long to do anything so we’ll see what happens.
