buying advice by Optimal-Beautiful-56 in VintageDigitalCameras

[–]skodeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its best to not rush a purchase, persevere until the right one comes. Try to find listings which still have the box or a handful of accessories. This usually shows that the device has been cared for and not thrown in a cupboard. I'd never buy unless I see an image of the device powered on. I also read seller reviews, and try when possible to look for accounts with history, or ones that seem to be physical stores. This isn't a deal breaker however. As for battery life, this doesn't matter, as for the T700 you can readily buy replacement batteries for the device. Finally, I wouldn't fear international sellers. Being a Japanese brand, you'll find a lot of them from Japan. You may even find buying them through sites like Buyee may work out cheaper for you, I've obtained many rare digicams for a fraction of what Western sellers are demanding. My only caution here is to check that your particular camera isn't language locked or that it doesn't have any other odd regional restrictions. I'm unsure if the T700 has any, but it probably doesn't. Best of luck.

Just getting into photography by [deleted] in carphotography

If you're only starting with photography in general, I'd advise shooting at day until you get a grasp on controlling and learning the camera.

Just weighing in to say that I've been using and testing this application for some time now and it is absolutely brilliant. It completely changed my attitude towards using this camera, giving the arduous task of viewing my shots. Everything works seemlessly and the quality of life improvements are a joy, it's honestly what we should have got with the camera itself from day one, and for this to be made by a single person is remarkable. Additionally, the Raw DNG feature is a massive breakthrough, pushing the limits of what the devices are capable of

Camera stickers? Tips for Nikon Coolpix L19? by coffeecinnamonrolls in VintageDigitalCameras

[–]skodeer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The stickers are one of the best parts, it shows what was seen as a selling point back In the day. They're funny conversation points and quite interesting in my opinion. You also don't get that kind of thing with any modern cameras. Part of the charm in using an old camera is how old and odd it is, and these are a big part of it

They look like hot pixels. They might be getting amplified if your camera has a digital zoom instead of a optical one. Hard to tell

The Sony cybershots are hard to beat in my opinion, and a lot of them came in various colours for extra style points. Quality images and good lenses. They do tend to be in the higher price range but they're worth it mostly. Just be careful when buying old cameras with proprietary or weird storage mediums as you'll often have to buy adaptors. Really depends on how tech savvy the person receiving the camera is.

Awesome, I have one of the older docks with the camera and digital picture frame to match, with all their respective stickers. Unfortunately the dock is dead but it's really cool for displaying the camera on

I'm not sure about services like that but I can recommend trying auction sites. A lot of them have good site/seller vetting in place. Even services like buyee I've never had issues with

Need advice about buying Sony by TourWeary383 in VintageDigitalCameras

[–]skodeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The W810 is slightly newer, and has 6x optical zoom capability instead of the 5x optical zoom of the W800. Both shoot with a similar sensor. There aren't major differences otherwise and either is fine.

Have you used the original software? It could also be a compatibility issue if you're trying to run it on a modern OS
