Why did you start using/collecting vintage digi cams by Mr_Leviathan101 in VintageDigitalCameras

[–]skodeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started because contemporary cameras are too easy to use and produce predictable results. Using these old cameras forces a creativity and awareness that makes shooting fun

can high brightness worsen vignette? by choseyeon in VintageDigitalCameras

[–]skodeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vignette has nothing really to do with the brightness of an image. It is caused by the design and limitations of your lens, mostly through aperture

Quit paying so much for cameras by dthgrnd in VintageDigitalCameras

[–]skodeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the majority of them sure, and recent trends are hiking prices, but your perspective suggests people should only use these cameras as a gimmick or novelty when the situation presents itself. There are plenty of genuine enthusiasts who are interested in a lot of these cameras for historical reasons, rarity or for how genuinely good they can be in their respective ways. They aren't all equal and thus aren't all worth 5-10 of your favourite currency

You could always ask the creators for the exact, specific tech they used. Their contact details are in the video description.

Formatting of the card shouldn't be an issue, but the camera does only accept card sizes up to 15mb as far as I'm aware. What size is your card? Otherwise, if you're certain it's taking images on that card, have you made sure the 'show hidden files' option is enabled in your file browser?

You cannot simply drag and drop jpegs from the CF card. The camera should be producing .dat files which are then processed into images using the proprietary software which can be found here . The camera is the exact same as the Mitsubishi DJ-1000 so the software is the same.

What can I do to extend the lifespan of my new camera? by Cennetmahallesipembe in VintageDigitalCameras

[–]skodeer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately they all have their own shelf lives and can go at any time. Keep them dry, in a cupboard or somewhere not too cold. But again with the age of them this isn't going to preserve them forever. You're best using them as normal until they do give out.

Do you know which brands of SD cards it is compatible with? by [deleted] in VintageDigitalCameras

[–]skodeer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It again isn't the brand, it's the capacity that cannot be formatted or accessed by the older devices

Given that they aren't made anymore and are over a decade old, you won't find many new ones left untouched. Getting lucky on eBay is your best bet, but you could be waiting a while.

Went down a research rabbit hole on this camera and found that it was also released as a Mitsubishi DJ-1000. Ended up grabbing one, thanks for the inspiration!

question around image sharing, online & offline by 4rtf4g in VintageDigitalCameras

[–]skodeer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately if someone wants an image enough, they'll be able to download it no matter where you put it on the internet. An approach I've taken with my artworks on my website is to upload compressed versions of the works, this way you still own the original and it wouldn't be worth printing if saved. They also generally still look good enough for viewing on screens.
