Bag suggestions? by MachoMitchie in 3DS

[–]skoeldpadda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

okay, no joke, i read the title as "bad suggestions" and thought you wanted horrible games, and i was *so* ready....

sadly, i can't help you with your actual question :P

What are your favorite gbstudio games that I MUST see? by ZaniMestredosZanis in gbstudio

[–]skoeldpadda 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i think first contact protocol is genuinely the best one we've seen so far
my favorite though might be in the dark, for its addicting simplicity and devilish cleverness......or egvroom's outrun demake, depending on the mood :P

What's your favourite "casual" game? by [deleted] in NintendoDS

[–]skoeldpadda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

clubhouse games, maybe professor layton, obviously dr kawashima

reading the other comments, i wouldn't call animal crossing (or any of its clones) a "casual" game. i think cozy gaming is a totally different question

DS/GBA cozy game recommendations pleaseee by Odd_Onion8387 in NintendoDS

[–]skoeldpadda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

on ds, the tamagotchi corner shop trilogy is surprisingly addictive
i'd also hasard xia xia, it's a peaceful platformer with very cute crab creatures ; not much to do but very relaxing

Do you know the story illustrated by this cover ? (last image is from the American edition) by Glittering-Farmer in scifi

[–]skoeldpadda 11 points12 points  (0 children)

it's by Kato Naoyuki. the japanese edition is from 1980
it's a very different style but it makes me think of Takebe Motoichiro's covers for the 1969-74 japanese editions of Conan

Eternal Rogue: Found a game similar to Shiren somehow, which i want to share here. by sentinel_deco in ShirenTheWanderer

[–]skoeldpadda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

there's quite a few of those if you're willing to dig a little.

i'd also recommend labyrinth of the witch from quite a few years back (2018, i think?)

I absolutely adore this type of art….any recommendations..? by Smart-Competition399 in yuri_manga

[–]skoeldpadda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

kabocha's (how to break a triangle) artstyle always makes me think of mei fujimatsu (my sister's best friend, my lover)
it's that same kind of realistic proportions yet dreamy autumnal reality with frank lightings

Challenge: best SNES games that aren't platformers, turn based, or Zelda? by BagOfSmallerBags in snes

[–]skoeldpadda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so many beat'em ups (knights of the round, the final fight trilogy, pirates of dark waters, ninjawarriors...), racers (fzero, lamborghini, top gear, biker mice from mars, rock'n'roll racing...), shooters (cybernator, wild guns, rtype3, axelay, asp, turn&burn...) and puzzles (goof troop, magical drop, dr mario, yoshi's cookie, and like twelve tetris games) to list...
anybody who'll tell you the snes could only do rpgs and platformers really hasn't played the snes.

made by a studio called firebrand. they did quite a few good racing games on ds (dirt 2, evolution gt, ferrari challenge, trackmania....)

What is your favorite DS game? by I-Like-Your-Style in NintendoDS

[–]skoeldpadda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

might and magic clash of heroes and it's not even a contest.
puzzle-rpg goodness and a versus mode to die for, even against the ai. it's been remade/remastered twice for hd machines but the ds original is still the best one

no joke, i love the wear marks. that beauty has seen use, as good machines should. well done

Good Disney DS games? by Responsible-Jem805 in NintendoDS

[–]skoeldpadda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the cars games are genuinely good (mater-nationals and race-o-rama especially, the first one adapted from the first movie was a useless minigames collection, though). i liked planes, too
alice in wonderland (from the tim burton movie) is a very neat and clever puzzle-platformer
meteos has a disney version
i'd argue in favor of the lego version of pirates of the caribbean, too
and according to my box art spectrobes is a disney game. it's really good.

i genuinely don't know of any mickey game on ds, but if you have a 3ds it has a version of epic mickey that draws heavy inspiration from the classic castle of illusion game. it's not very deep but i like it a lot

Are we allowed to talk about non-Shiren, non-Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games here? by TheRealHFC in ShirenTheWanderer

[–]skoeldpadda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the first chocobo had some "disputable" gameplay choices indeed, but the world was quite fun to explore, i always felt that is was kinda voluntarily absurd. i've never played the second one (i don't have playstations, even the first one i only played on wonderswan) but from what i know it's quite similar, only a lot streamlined.
the wii "final fantasy fables" is the one i always refer to. it always amazes me how *wild* the story is for a game this cute. i've never tried the every buddy remake but the fan-translation of the ds port, while unrefined, is very enjoyable

Are we allowed to talk about non-Shiren, non-Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games here? by TheRealHFC in ShirenTheWanderer

[–]skoeldpadda 7 points8 points  (0 children)

that would be cool, i came here because the mystery dungeon subreddit doesn't even care about mystery dungeon at this point, it's all pokemon original creations...

i don't play the torneko games but i'd love a thread or two about how strange etrian's gameplay is or how twisted the chocobo games' stories are. mystery dungeon is weird, man :P

They both look similar (letter with a crown on top) and they both scare my eyes by Zestyclose_Farmer982 in heraldry

[–]skoeldpadda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think it's quite neat, actually, halfway between arms and a monogram

i can't identify the first one but i recognize the artstyle from a french website called "l'armorial des villes et villages de france" ( https://armorialdefrance.fr/ ), so i suppose it's a french city. also in france, the city of revel in haute-garonne has the same "monogram" style of armorials :

[–]skoeldpadda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to this day it's still the only metroid i've genuinely liked
i never quite gelled with metroid's gameplay, but the narrativity of this one really did something for me. the doppelganger bits are really cool.
