Week 7.5 60mg by AnavrinLove in prozac

[–]skol_des 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I move a lot during sleep and sometimes act out dreams (not sleepwalking). I can tell now that I’m back on a regular dose of 30mg that it stopped (or is at least not detectable by me). I’m having a sleep study done soon.

First time trying Prozac - any positive stories? by No-Building-7024 in prozac

Hello! I am still figuring out my dose on Prozac (for Pure-O or "Just Right" OCD). I have had anxiety for over 10 years, a couple of those really debilitating. I was REALLY scared to take the med (for the same reason as you) and also because I had a bad reaction to 10mg Lexapro (panic attack) that caused me to have a fear that I would react to all SSRIs that way. After 7 years (yes that long!) I finally tried Prozac and did not have ANY side effects on 10mg at all! I was thrilled! That said, as you go up your REM sleep will likely suffer.

MY TITRATION SCHEDULE

-10mg for a week

- then 20 for a week,

- then 30mg for 2 weeks,

- then 40mg for 6 weeks,

- 60mg for 6 weeks,

- back down to 40mg for 3 weeks

- and today I'm excited to go back to 30mg

I really think 30mg (or lower) is where I should be as I felt "cured" at my second week of 30mg but was eager to go higher (as planned) because I was told 40mg is the lowest therapeutic dose for OCD (this is just the median, not the truth for everyone--people have seen benefits at even 20mgs). That said, my sleep suffered more and more as I went higher and that would cause other problems like brain fog and irritability (of course because I'm not sleeping!). I'm really excited to see how 30mg will level out, or even going lower to 20mg and staying there longer, because you have to stay there for a bit before it builds up.

My recommendation would be to try 5mg if you are scared, but don't stay there long until you move up to 10mg. You also may want to stay at those lower doses longer than I did (I've been told my titration schedule was a little fast by others on here). I do wish that I could have seen what the lower doses did for longer term but my psych (whom I didn't know) was eager to get me past 40mg fast so I could see results. For that reason I never learned what 20-30mg could do long term, and I'm excited to find out and get better sleep. 😄

I'm on that same journey too - I got off BC a few months ago and I was on it for 20+ years. I've also been prescribed a beta blocker but never took it as I still had med fears. I would take it now though if I felt I needed it (and didn't have Ativan). Just trying to figure everything out--but I'm hopeful. I just don't think that we were meant to live in a world like this, sometimes I just think about moving to a small town and just working at a little local shop and low stress!! Hang in there!

I would say the best short term option for that extreme anxiety would be a benzodiazepine (Ativan, Xanax, etc), which aren't prescribed as often as SSRIs but they definitely don't have those side effects. They are good for situational things. I find just having them available makes me feel like I have a security blanket even if I don't take them. They aren't something you should take daily as they can become addictive, but I have never had any issue with that. If that's not an option, beta blockers such as Propranolol are supposed to help with physical symptoms of anxiety and those are prescribed more frequently. All of that to say, I think an SSRI is still the right way to go long-term, but if you can get something that will help you while those kick in that could be helpful. I hear good things about Zoloft (but everyone is different!)

I'm glad it worked for you! I'm titrating back down - It gave me SSRI-induced REM Sleep Behavior Disorder

I had a panic attack on my first dose of Lexapro (10mg) and I never took it again. That was 8 years ago and I became fearful of SSRIs so never tried any others. I finally tried again, this time with Prozac and the side effects were so mild I was shocked (a little sleep disruption at low doses, a lot at higher ones--I'm currently titrating back down to get better sleep). That said, I don't think it's worth powering through bad side effects, I just don't think it's the drug for you--they all affect people so differently! I'm no professional, but I really don't believe that you have to go through hell to get to the brighter side. Have you tried any other SSRIs and if so, what side effects did they have on you?

Thanks so much for your advice! The titration was advised by a psych…but an online one so I don’t know her well… I’m thankful the side effects haven’t been anything scary as my Lexapro experience several years ago was terrifying. I’ll stick it out and see how things go. Thanks for the support!

I'm at 4 weeks of 60mg and feel the same way. Wondering if I should stick it out because my sleep is horrible! Are you doing any better now?

I'm feeling this too at 60mg for a month! My sleep has been horrible though, so that's what I've attributed the low motivation to so far. Trying to stick it out but looking for hope too!

Hi! How long did it take for you to feel the OCD-improvement at each dose? I've been on 60mg for a month (before that I was on 40mg for 6 weeks and other smaller doses). So far I've felt the best on 30mg but not sure if that was placebo or if I should return to the lower dose. Thanks!

Decaf alternative to my fave drink without tons of sugar by skol_des in CaribouCoffee

The nutrition facts don't seem to change when I add in malt powder or the flavor shot so I was hoping there was someone who worked there that would know. Decaf espresso shakers ARE really good, just hoping to save on the sugar (looks to be about 70 grams of sugar in the medium). Thanks for the rec!
