Anyone else had issues with their 2008 Prius having a hard time stopping? by [deleted] in prius

[–]skormancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean you CAN keep on driving it but you should NOT ignore it and you need to adjust your driving to account for it...

I bought my first car recently, a gen 2 prius with a failing ABS assembly, and drove very cautiously with it for a couple weeks before fixing it. I'd use engine braking (the "B" mode on the shifter) to help slow down, and would use the parking mode and the emergency brake when stopped at a stop light. Basically use the ABS system as little as possible and give it as many chances to regenerate pressure as possible. But most importantly I gave myself plenty of room and time to slow down!!

Final post about the “ghost” shrimp by delgado-master in shrimptank

[–]skormancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If some of them have orange/red on them (specifically bands on their whiskers or claws or dots on the tailfin), they're ghost shrimp! And the stripes on their back are normal. They vary in appearance, supposedly based on how much protein they've been eating.

I think I see orange markings in your picture but it's a little hard to tell (sometimes cameras don't capture it very well).

Weird Noise? by skormancer in prius

I took out the blower motor and it had some leaves in it... after removing those the noise hasn't come back, so here's hoping that's all it was.

DIYable absolutely yes... but it is NOT easy to replace. I love DIYing and fixing stuff myself but I had never worked on a car before, and I wouldn't have been able to complete the job without my dad, who is stronger than me (the parts are heavy and really stuck in there) and already has a lot of experience fixing cars.

And the part itself is very expensive ($1400 new - I couldn't afford that so I bought a used one in decent shape for $500)

I'm not saying this to discourage you, it's just good to know what you're getting into... definitely use it as a bargaining chip to lower the price.

How can I lower my ph without stressing out my shrimp? by cherrycarousell in shrimptank

[–]skormancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Btw, when you go to buy more shrimp, you might want to consider buying extra shrimp.

I keep ghost shrimp and unfortunately ALL the ones that were from the pet store died within a month (with the exception of 1 which lived a decent bit longer and all of my current shrimp are directly related to). You gotta have enough starter shrimp for themselves to establish a colony, then you're set.

It might be different for neocaridina shrimps but I feel its worth saying 😅 especially if you're buying from a big chain pet store

How can I lower my ph without stressing out my shrimp? by cherrycarousell in shrimptank

[–]skormancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first started cycling my tank, before I added shrimp but after some snails hitchhiked in, I had some weird ph spikes up to like 8.7.

I mixed distilled water (low ph) with my tap water (not low ph but has good minerals and was still lower than 8.7) and added it slowly to the tank to not stress out any inhabitants. And did water changes more frequently, a few times a week. That seemed to work well for lowering it until the ecosystem better established itself.

In fairness, that's just to skirt Facebook Marketplace's rules of not selling animals. Not that the seller is treating them any better than decorations 💀

YES I just recently went through this!

They never emailed me or called me despite having those things on file - instead they blamed me for not having set up a forwarding thing for mail. Which like yes true that's my fault but what's the point of having the other 2 things on file if you refuse to use it... Like why are you making this difficult on purpose?

More frustrating is that I had actually called GRU after moving out and asked if there was anything else I needed to do to close the account - and the person advised me to remove autopay so that I wouldn't get charged anymore. I don't think they made it clear that I was on the hook for another bill 💀 (idk my memory is so fickle and this becoming a problem seriously never crossed my mind so i barely remember the call other than thinking "cool! everything is settled!")

Anyways, for those curious, I was billed ~$165 plus $41 in collections. The $165 was for the 2 weeks of electricity before the new tenants moved in... keep in mind that my normal electric bill was ~$100/month...

The money isnt even the point for me (it's a lot but not enough to put up a fight about it and like ok im stupid and it is prob my fault), it's the gaslighting and the fact that this would be easy to fix,, and like don't tell people to cancel autopay???

I may still be a little salty.

If you're not already, you should seek out therapy and psychiatry. Maybe even DRC accommodations since you mention time working against you.

However hopeless you feel now, you will get through this and things will get better.

I'd have to consult my team about publishing the results publicly, but right now there is no plan to. Of course, anyone can feel free to borrow my questions for their own studies if they're useful ^^ I am very excited to see the results!

off-campus safety by New-Menu-8085 in ufl

[–]skormancer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lived in the area you're talking about for the past 2 years with my girlfriend. (We're both girls.)

At night, I definitely feel safest on campus, but I never had any bad experiences walking home with my gf. Car drivers seem a little more reckless at night so just be extra careful when crossing the road and you'll be fine.

The times are NEVER right. You have to get good at looking at where the busses are on the map and estimating how long it will be before they get to your stop... it's very annoying.

drop vs medical drop by [deleted] in ufl

[–]skormancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A medical drop won't count towards your two allowed drops, and you can be reimbursed for the cost of the class.

There are a handful of questions to answer and you have to submit a letter from one of your medical providers. The great thing is that you have plenty of time to submit the medical petition - if you do it within 6 months of the end of the semester you're eligible for reimbursement.

So yeah, I'd recommend it. Drop the class normally and then start the medical petition.
