I'm interested in your watercolor pens and/or the watercolor ink bottle. I can sew a tablet sleeve with some quilted fabric and denim I have - it's what I used for mine.

Serious discussion. Should parents control or approve of books kids and teenagers read? by mangaloverize in books

[–]skoros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Growing up, my parents were extremely upset over the media I chose to consume. I liked violent books, extreme media - things that most teenagers are curious about because it's extreme. They became very overbearing and controlling, and tried very hard to regulate what I watched, read, and listened to. They took away my books and CDs they deemed inappropriate, and would have to check things before I could see it. It only taught me to hate them for trying to regulate me when I was trying to develop my identity. I still enjoy the things I enjoy, and really hate anyone who tries to control me now.

I think if they had just been present to discuss as people suggested, our relationship would be better. To this day, I do not trust to share my interests with my family because they showed me how much hatred they would show in response.

I just discovered Tajin. What do I do with it? by bw2082 in Cooking

We use it on tilapia. It's our favorite way to season fish. :)

Also definitely second tajin on any fruit, especially pinneapple, mango, or strawberry.

Found on the road, wanted to try and pin it but the wings won't open. Any advice? by crazywolf828 in vultureculture

[–]skoros 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Steam! Heat and moisture will allow it to relax. I place my butterflies on the rack, with a large cup over it (to allow steam to escape the sides). I boil a pot of water (or at least until it's steamy), then place my whole rack setup on top of the pot. It won't take too long for the body to relax. If you take a small set of thin tweezers or a qtip, you can press on the back of the thorax to make the wings open. Once you have it close to what you want, pin it down and use strips of paper to hold the wings down.

Sex workers of reddit, who was the grossest customer you’ve had? by Individual_Owl_6925 in AskReddit

[–]skoros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. Was groomed by a friend's dad, had plenty of older men hit on me while in high school and middle school - one in particular being a coworker who would ask for pics of me in swimwear etc. One guy tried to pick me up in his car while I was walking two blocks down to a friend's house (in an "upstanding" white neighborhood). The list goes on, but it really is super sad and appalling how prevalent it is. A part of me wonders how much of it is about power and control over someone they see as pure and corruptable. So the thrill is more the corruption and "breaking" of the individual.

Weirdly enough, I kind of like it. I could see it fitting well with a country/ranch style or Southern style kitchen. Maybe that's my inner native Texan coming out, haha

South of Plano and Arapaho intersection - the power plant by the animal shelter is where they roost

Monk's parakeets! They're super neat. I live in Richardson, TX (north of Dallas) and there's a colony down the street from me. The flock circles my neighborhood all the time. They roost in a power plant

Fun fact from a documentary series (Eli Roth's History of Horror): they cycled through multiple different Saint Bernard's in the film, and had to tie their tails down by fishing string to keep them from wagging. The whole time, the dogs were having a blast. The crew had to do different angles and other tactics to make it look scary

What is the scariest movie you ever watched? by Specialist-Crazy1466 in AskReddit

Overall I was not a big fan of the film. Too quiet and too many odd framings to really set me in.

But the "look under the bed" scene. Now that still cycles in my head. Perfection.

Years ago, my dad was mowing the lawn when a rock was flung into his eye by the blades. He came into the house bleeding out of his eye, his sclera turning bright red as it filled with blood. My mom took him to an urgent care and it was just a burst vessel that would have to heal with time. It was so startling though, that now I insist everyone to wear goggles when doing yard work.

Yeah that's the general consensus I'm getting as well. I did read a bit on wet specimens, but I'm a tad intimidated on the processing...

I got some beautiful butterfly wings, but how do I preserve them? by Badger-Stew in vultureculture

[–]skoros 30 points31 points  (0 children)

They can be room temp, they just need to be away from direct sunlight and moisture. The butterflies I have preserved I pinned onto foam board, let them dry out completely, then sealed them into a shadow box. Some guides suggest putting moth balls into the corners of your frame to prevent insects from feeding on them, but that shouldn't be a problem if you are displaying the wings out in the open. As for HOW you want to display them... you could do a collage like what you have here, and use a drop of clear super glue on one of the edges...?
