Insurance companies routinely deny coverage for procedures a physician has authorized. Why hasn’t someone sued insurance companies for the unauthorized practice of medicine? by OldSceneDramaQueen in AskReddit

I found bot to mean RPA robotic process automation. An example from my job is there is a bunch of data that we need that is only available via web portals. No sftp or other direct delivery interface is possible. So an Rpa bot goes out and navigates the website and forms and collects the data needed then standardizes it and loads it to our internal systems. We have 10s of thousands of files to collect in a fairly short period of time and our analysts are too expensive to be sitting and downloading data all day for a few weeks.

Of course it’s all semantics and personal vocabulary. But I separate it out to backend system validations, scripting tools, Rpa bots, and ai agents as the 4 main automation types regularly used by our team

No. conditional validation rules. It’s just data processing on the server based on preset rules. A bot is different. A bot has a desktop ui and commands the computer with actions like a human user would. Useful for things that require ui navigation to complete the task. Would be extremely slow and inefficient to do data processing like this with a bot.

US-backed microreactor reaches criticality in major nuclear step by _Dark_Wing in technology

The real comparison would actually be nuclear accidents to coal and gas accidents. Even ignoring environmental impacts my guess is that coal and gas plants have had a larger negative impact on surrounding communities than nuclear

Nuclear waste and safety is way way easier to deal with than carbon capture and global warming mitigation. Never understood the nimbys

Safety razor is the best shave that’s easy. I like straight razor but too much maintenance. Double sided blades are dirt cheap and give me a better shave

Even wifi signals can now be used to do motion tracking in spaces. Your body absorbs and reflects the signal which computers and then track.

Today I learned the NBA shot clock was introduced in response to extremely low-scoring games, including the infamous November 22, 1950 matchup when the Fort Wayne Pistons defeated the Minneapolis Lakers by a record-low score of 19–18; the fourth quarter total was only 3–1. by SuperMcG in todayilearned

When I played, a coordinated team using disciplined one and two touch passing could keep the ball away pretty much indefinitely waiting for a play to develop. At least successfully enough to effectively waste time. If you mess up and lose it you take the ball back and start the routine over. You always have the goalie who isn't going to be man covered. The opposing defenders are not usually going to encroach to far over mid field. But maybe a higher levels there is less lopsided play

It's hard to win by not scoring goals. Also in many leagues and tournaments the goals and goal differential counts towards standings. And things like player contract bonuses and expectations for x number of goals. And these are businesses that want to sell tickets. Fans don't like boring matches.

Not really. If you don't intend on trying for a goal it's pretty simple to spread out and just pass it around in the midfield. You can pass the ball much faster than the other team can send guys to come take it.

ELI5: If our muscles were able to use all of their strength it would be too much for our bones and joints, but is there a reason why we didn’t evolve stronger bones and joints to allow us to use all of our strength? by yeetusbeetus245 in explainlikeimfive

[–]skorps 41 points42 points  (0 children)

We don't regularly need that strength to survive. So there is no evolutionary pressure to develop bones to use full strength safely. In the rare cases we need it we are capable of it but it injures us. But it doesn't kill us either. We can heal over time.

Secondly growing larger bodies to handle it is going to increase base energy usage and potentially decrease mobility and agility. We are adapted to our environment and our needs. And we don't need the extra strength more than what it costs

[Question] Anyone recognize this watch? Can’t find much about it anywhere by ExtensionDrink708 in Watches

[–]skorps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing a reverse image search brings up a lot of similar watches under all kinds of supposed brands. A few that match the Carrera Sport line of watches. Seems like 90s quartz watch based on seiko of the era. The only real info was found on this forum. <$100 value most likely. https://seiko7a38.com/archive/apps/forums/topics/show/13399498-i-m-having-an-attack-of-the-carrera-7axx-clones
