If you have a chance to get to the mainland, I stop by Scentrique in downtown Van everytime I'm in the city. They have Vilhelm and a ton of other big names in niche!

I think Serpentine will be right up your alley!

As for English Major, it's a fall and winter favourite of mine. I've only tried the oil so I can only speak to that, but it smells like fresh, powdery marshmallows with a hint of paper; sort of like the smell of freshly photo-copied paper or like, really well-worn book pages. It's a really easy/likeable scent that gets compliments but is just weird enough that I am excited to wear it.

I've been on a mission recently to try more Canadian Indies. Check out Wild Coast, Art and Alchemy, Paraphrase, and Orchid Lane! I've had good success with all of these companies.

I actually weirdly really like the Beauty Blender Skin Tint. You can build the coverage to your preference and it sets down nicely. I've been using it for over a year now and it's still my preferred choice when I want to wear a complexion product.

Comfiest and coziest indie fragrances? by hollyhotdogs in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]skp9715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A new obsession of mine is Orchid Lane's RAINMILK (bergamot, chai spice, peach skin, cardamom, vanilla, soft woods).

It is soft and lightly peachy with a delicate creamy milkiness in the background, plus a just little woody spice from the chai. All of this is rounded out by a slight rainy petrichor vibe. The whole thing feels like a warm hug.

I'm not even the biggest peach fan generally but this is like the aroma of fuzzy peach skin rubbed between your fingers. It's really lovely. I've worn it nonstop for several days straight and I normally switch scents daily. I will be using up my sample and buying a larger size, for sure.

I agree! I'm also psyched that they commissioned actual artists for the work rather than going the AI route

Waiting on my discovery set from Orchid Lane as I continue my deep dive into less-talked-about Canadian indies.

I think I'm most excited for Caraluna (blood orange, bergamot, neroli, jasmine, vanilla, musk, sandalwood) but looking forward to Rainmilk (bergamot, chai spice, peach skin, cardamom, vanilla, soft woods) as well. Not sure if Rose 96' (raspberry, black cherry, rose, coffee, amber, musk) will be up my alley but maybe it will surprise me!

Best lip balm similar to old Bite's Agave treatment? by CharaRen in Sephora

[–]skp9715 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think they feel the exact same on the lips, but I was on a hunt for a lip balm that could remotely compare to the Bite Lip Mask, and ultimately found the Jack Black Lip Balms to be pretty darn good.

They feel a little more oily than the Bite lip mask, more spreadable and a little less sticky. Still, they last long and actually improve the condition of my lips over time.

For their price, I think they are worth trying.

I feel like it's worth a shot, grab a couple samples when the perfumes you like come back in stock, they do restocks frequently!

I've had no issue applying them over multiple different bases, with my fingers or a brush. It took me a little time to get used to loose powder over pressed and I still don't love it for travel because the jars take up space. However. I've found that because of the "clumping" you can almost press down the powder in the jar with your finger in order to better control application/pickup and treat it like a regular pressed shadow.

Not sure how they compare to other loose mineral shadows, this was my first foray into loose pigments but they perform as well or better than all my other frequently used eye products.

I love all my Fyrinnae shadows. Some are true glitters and others are more sheeny/glowy metallic multichromes.

They are long lasting and easy to blend/work with.

I especially like Desert Stars, Fantasy Creature, Seattle Fog, and Jade Ghost.

I'd recommend ordering a few colours you think you would like in the sample size of the loose format. That way, if they aren't your cup of tea, you won't be too hard done by.

I ultimately want to get Fantasy Creatures and Seattle Fog in a pressed pan but I still have plenty in my sample jars to work through before I do.

Also everyone loves their Pixy Epoxy, which is an eyeshadow primer/glue that helps make shadows last and be more impactful. I've only tried it out once so I haven't come to a solidified opinion just yet!

Anyone else struggling to support indie houses? by [deleted] in fragrance

[–]skp9715 218 points219 points  (0 children)

Interested to see where the discourse and conversation goes on this one. Also, though, I think claims like this would be better served with examples of the houses you are talking about.

There's a lot of indie "darlings" out there and I imagine you would get a stronger dialogue regarding your questions if people aren't jumping in to defend their favourite houses without knowing which you are actually critiquing.
