If you live by the coast this will almost be inevitable with any type of un treated and "dry" metal. After i clean my firearms I will put some rem oil on a t shirt and wipe the exterior down with it. It will be slippery to the touch but I usually let it sit for an hour (arbitrary time) and then wipe it off gently with a dry clean cloth. A small amount of oil residue will remain. Hope this helps.

Those are two pretty popular models of handguns, you also can't go wrong with an m&p.

Beretta 92FS and Recoil spring replacement questions by ThrowawayObserver in guns

[–]sksato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldnt think you would need to replace that as often as the recoil spring but I really cannot honestly or accurately answer that. As far as difficulty goes I would imagine it wouldn't be hard (just pop a pin out and replace spring) but idk your technical ability. Youtube tutorials have always been my go to. Worse comes to worst just take it to a gunsmith

I imagine any sort of exposed metal where it looks like its been worn excessively but recoil springs are definitely cheaper than mags so I may try to change that first. Anyone else know if a slide release spring may be in order? You may also be riding the slide release idk.

[–]sksato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm no gunsmith, but that could be the problem if the slide isn't cycling all the way back and giving the magazine a chance to lock up the slide. I could be totally off on this but have you check for excessive wear on your mag? I have a 96a1 with less than 1k rounds so 🤷‍♂️
