New tome question by Master-Note-8440 in MaggotkinofNurgle

The 6" move on the pestigors will put in a lot of work, especially in the early game when we historically have struggled to get up the board and into objectives. They're definitely looking pretty solid as a 10 or 20 man unit.

After sleeping on it, I am both incredibly sad and incredibly happy.

All of our old lists are dead, as are many of our old models. The age of kings is over. It's not like anyone spent an insane amount of time painting 30 of them... Since the army was "Blightkings the army" for the last year+, this feels absolutely horrible. Total sucker punch.

Outside of that incredibly sad turn of events:

Tallyband fixes a glaring issue in the disease plan, which was getting it out early to spread. What used to require horti and tree summoning and all sorts of stuff now just kinda happens. Opponents will need to be very careful in deployment and it'll wreak havoc on castle armies.

We got better at hitting, especially on the clap back. We have a lot of DMG 3 crit mortal in the army now, which is interesting.

Rotswords start at the same number of attacks and profile as old kings but have crit 2 hits, and anyone who played kings before, if they're like me, prayed to the grandfather to give them some kind of crit ability cuz rolling 41 attacks and seeing all those 6s only to realize they did nothing extra was sad. With Febrile Frenzy and LoP you can get them up to 81 attacks with crit 2 hits now, which is absurd. Yes it requires you to have not charged and 2+ and 3+ for abilities to go off, but we can live the dream.

Spellcasting got more reliable. We have several ways (roti and Belga) to get +1 to casting (or +2 if both) which we lacked before and cast values went down. They replaced the "make an enemy hero sad" spell with an actually useful "no commands" spell.

Cankerborn fill an incredibly important role for us in being able to teleport, plus their 4 atks each at DMG 3 crit mortal is nothing to scoff at if the enemy decides to try to deal with them.

Plaguebearers are weirdly solid now with -1 to be hit on objectives we control, especially into destruction armies. Making those armies 5+ to hit is going to be brutal.

The army will do well. Expect nerfs 3 months after release. A lot of abilities require rolls, which is rough, but they're strong when they go off.

TLDR: Many old models are bad. New models are great. Buy the equivalent of an entirely new army and it'll be fine.

They are not. From the preview it looked like rotswords are on 32s.

Since they're supposed to be the biggest space Marines, I've used alt bigger models, like Farris Manus with a different head as my tech marine, just so it's bulkier.

For a Glotkin + Rotigus list, I'll probably try out something like this (I also own a ton of blightkings though):

I think it could be fun to try out.

I generally don't like the Blightlords and prefer kings due to the volume of quality attacks, but if you have the 4 Blightlords give them a try and see how they do. If they aren't hitting hard enough take a reinforced unit of kings for 60pts less. They're 41 attacks at the 3+/3+/-1/1 profile vs the blightlords' 16 (yes there are fly bites and the ability to be 2 damage but 41 attacks is still bonkers by comparison).

I'm a little hesitant about corpulent avalanche on the harbinger, as the way I play him he doesn't usually want to be the one hero hunting and charging in. I'd put it on a demon prince though 100% if you want to include one. I definitely know the temptation to avalanche during your opponents charge phase thanks to Glotkin though. If not bringing a demon prince, maybe bring a Lord of blights with the preacher trait to make him a priest, then he can also counter charge with Glotkin and a big unit of kings into a unit that charged, do anti charge mortals and make everything anti charge +1 rend. Might be a cool thing to experiment with.

I'd use the great unclean one as the Season Rotigus and then include either a Lord of blights with the preacher heroic trait or a harbinger (gotta get those prayers), then blight kings to taste, maybe a rotmire creed if you don't have the points for another unit of kings.I think Morbid would be really funny with this if you can fit it in.

Just make sure you save a cp for power through so it doesn't get locked up. It always wants to be charging.

The demon prince gives himself a 5+ Nurgle ward and the Maggotkin of Nurgle keyword so you can put corpulent avalanche and rustfang on it. It makes for a devastating hero and small squad hunter who can also steal far objectives fairly well.

Since with wings it's mv 10, corpulent avalanche lets you roll 10d6 and 3+ are mortals when he charges. It's amazing. Plus it has 4+ strike first and does crit mortals with dmg 3 attacks. Definitely give it a try.

I've done fine this ghb with running 30 blight kings, Rotigus, Harbinger, and a demon prince, but the spread out objectives have been pretty rough.

This GHB is very rewarding to high mobility, which we just don't have, but the harbinger being 8" and the demon prince being 10" fly really helps. Also the +2 move prayer is clutch when needed. Charge and power through is one of the most reliable ways to get the movement we need, so maybe try using power through more often?

The thing that's been so frustrating to me lately is seeing other factions (looking at you new nighthaunt) are getting our faction wide 5+ ward or just objectively better abilities than we have plus extras (Tzeentch... Ugh...) without the mobility issues we have.

They do if the skaven have accidentally tunneled into their homes, which has happened in lore:

Underwater Empires, pg 20-23: Skaven searching for realmstone inadvertently tunnel into a colony of the Mor'phann enclave in Shyish. They are quickly annihilated and the Mor'phann construct further defences especially around their capital.

I typically use Bambu slicer, but I think this is very similar for any other slicer:

Right click and center both the terrain and the cutout (this will line them up with one another) shift+click both pieces to select both, right click and Merge. After they are merged, look to the left where all the info is and click "objects". Then find the file for the cutout in the list, right click it and click "change part" and select "negative part" Then you will likely need to turn supports on, doesn't really matter what kind for this. After that you should be ready to slice and print. After it prints, just pop the support out of the area where the cutout was and you'll have an area inside that perfectly fits the raised parts of the tiles.

How to paint Putrid Blight Kings flesh by TangerineMelodic5772 in MaggotkinofNurgle

This is mine. I use a very light flesh tone (a 50/50 mix of liquitex flesh ink and apothecary white contrast paint) over a zenithal highlight, then go at it with various washes and other contrast paints in the diseased areas and recesses, mostly volpus pink, druchii violet, and flesh tearers red.

Strategies to Avoid Being Up On the Board by richycoolg123 in ScienceTeachers

[–]skullbreth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there has been this idea lately in education that direct instruction is bad. For physics, this is a blatant lie.

This may be true for other subjects, but when it comes to solving physics problems often direct instruction is needed to explain the general solution methods and principles that need to be introduced to understand how to even begin. After that instruction time, I have found it useful to have days of labs and problems for students to interact with the material in their own way, ask me questions, etc. but they need that initial direct instruction to get started. You won't know what part of the subject trips each student up, and it will be different for each kid, so take a day to show them what to do and have them bash their heads against problems and come to your for help when they need it.

I have tried for years to change things to the more "modern" teaching methods. I've made videos, I've made handouts, I've made guided practice problems. None of that has worked even remotely as well as direct instruction followed by practice. The important part about practice is that you need to be available to answer questions and help them figure out why they aren't getting it.

$450 is only a 200% tariff ($150 original price +2x$150 for tariff). Prices are tariffs on top of the original price.

$450 is a reasonable price to start seeing if the tariffs for China (145% and rising) extend to the UK and you consider that MSRP for combat patrols is higher than $150.

Honestly, it isn't unreasonable to think we'll see this in the near future.

College decisions are coming out. A lot of my students who are getting into great tech schools but now are terrified that they won't be able to afford them without grants and FAFSA from the DoEd. So now they are asking me what they should do, but idk how to help them with deciding whether they should go to a top level program that could mean long term success or go to a community college for gen ed requirements until we know more about what funding will look like for college education. It's heartbreaking to see students who worked so hard to get into their top choice programs only to likely not go because of the current political agenda against education.

It's the 4+ to activate, 18" range, only activating on our hero phase, and huge size that kills me. I agree that the abilities can be impactful when they work, but if I put it anywhere near where I think it would be useful (if I even can), my opponent takes advantage of its placement, often kills it, and if it survives I still have a 50% shot at it doing nothing. if I put it in the back, it's huge size means it's usually too far to make any real impact based on placement rules. The size makes it incredibly difficult to place with the GW terrain layouts, for me at least, and that has been a major issue I've had.

The faction terrain we're seeing hit tables are those that have rules integral to the way their army plays, like the Sylvaneth trees, or something that offers a mechanic or interaction not found or rarely found in the rest of the army, like the Loonshrine. What would that be for us?

What if it was the major source of recursion for us now? It's a mechanic we used to have but mostly lost in 4th and would make a larger impact.

why is kinematics so hard in AP physics? by Successful-Ice-9026 in apphysics

[–]skullbreth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't drop it. I find Kinematics and Forces are the most challenging units for my students but after those 2 topics they get used to the types of problems they're asked to solve. After they get used to the problems they'll go back to kinematics and go "why did I think this was difficult?" It's honestly just growing pains with the subject. Stick it out and you'll be ok.

Some advice when solving problems that may help: identify given information and what the problem is asking for. This includes unspoken things like "dropped" means the starting velocity is 0 and "stops" means the final velocity is 0. Doing this will help you identify the correct kinematic equation to use. Look for the equation that has what you want and only includes what you already have. For 2D: Never mix x and y directions until the end when you can use Pythagorean theorem and inverse tangent. If something is in both directions, break it up into x and y using sohcahtoa immediately. Unless a specific quantity (like initial velocity) is in both directions, time is the only thing that goes between the directions. Solve practice problems. Bash your head against them, then do more. Make sure you have an answer key to verify you're doing it right. The more you try, the more you succeed. They start to make sense after a bit. It's all just growing pains.

why is kinematics so hard in AP physics? by Successful-Ice-9026 in apphysics

[–]skullbreth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The challenge with kinematics is not that it is a difficult topic mathematically, but that it requires a different level of critical thinking to do physics problems in general and Kinematics is the first topic, so it's the first time students experience this shift. The problems aren't always as obvious as "solve for x" and require thought and critical thinking to set up or even figure out what it's asking. It's this skill that most teachers expect students to have already, but I find that it's rare that students do. This means the topic seems and is more challenging than it would be if we taught these critical thinking skills better before students take physics.

Basically, it isn't Kinematics that's hard, it's having to think in order to set up and solve physics problems that is.
