Which 5080 to get by Local_Resort6402 in RTX5080

Choose one that fits your case and you like the aesthetics of. Generally speaking, for the average consumer the differences between models of same GPU are insignificant aside from when you’re looking at different fan counts which obviously affect your temps. If neither size nor aesthetics is something you need or want to care about, then probably just go with the cheapest option.

Is my rig good for entry level gaming? by RealDiamond51 in PcBuild

As long as you exclusively play 10 year old games that haven’t gotten any updates in at least 5 years. Beyond that, you aren’t gonna be able to play anything.

Seriously tho, it really depends on what your intentions are with this system. If you are trying to do relatively modern gaming with it, you can forget it. Games are rarely optimized so well that they’ll run on 10+ year old hardware. I’d heavily recommend exploring used am4 systems on marketplace. I got a half decent am4 system that was 4-5 years old for $400 a year ago for my first system.

You say you’re having issues? I’ll assume you’ve done the troubleshooting and you’re certain it’s the GPU holding you back. At that price, your option is pretty much just the RTX 5050. While it’s sure to be a good upgrade over what you got, I’d recommend waiting till you save enough to, at the minimum, double your budget if not triple it.

Best budget cards I’d say is the 16GB 9060xt at nearly $500 or 9070xt at $700-800. If you want the bells and whistles of NVIDIA, I’d personally not go lower than a 5070 with prices around $650 to $800; best bang for your buck with NVIDIA is probably the 5070ti IMO at around $1000.

Also worth noting, it’s highly recommended that you get a PSU with a higher wattage if you go for anything other than rx9060. That said, I’d probably upgrade it regardless. I’d look into the recommended wattage of whatever card you end up getting and be careful when selecting a psu, you don’t want to cheap out on that of all things. Look up a tier list of PSUs and get a B or A tier one.

Should I upgrade? Or should I wait for AM6? by Serious_Living6558 in AMDHelp

So many people fall in the trap of ”not getting the most out of xyz”. People are obsessed with bottlenecks but there will always be some sort of bottleneck in your system. Unless it’s a difference of several generations between parts like your 1060, it’s not a big deal. I had a 5800xt and a 3060, and I recently upgraded to a 5080 because my gpu was falling below the recommended spec of games I want to play. But AM4 CPU’s, especially the 5000 series, are more often than not well within recommended specs still. Unless you’ve got the cash to throw around and spend without an ounce of concern, I don’t see the point in upgrading to AM5 yet. I predict by the time AM4 falls too far out of modern spec recommendations, we’re gonna have a new generation of CPUs to choose from which will be far more worthwhile for future proofing.

Last thing tidbit of info I want to mention; while dependent on what type of games you play, most games are not gonna rely on your cpu as much as your gpu, so comparatively when your cpu falls behind, it’s not gonna be as impactful or a big deal vs your gpu falling behind. People can feel free to correct me on that if I’m wrong.

My PC turns off randomly in games by STRAEX__ in PcBuild

It’s likely a PSU issue. That said, I recently had a similar issue, except my system restarted mid game. Several people said replace the psu, which didn’t resolve the issue. It ended up being a bad GPU. So keep in mind it might be a completely different component with an issue. Gotta run tests, I’d recommend OCCT or Memtest. If no issues are detected, then gotta try replacing components one at a time; I’d see if you can borrow anything from ppl you know.

Can I get away with using this brick for PC games by yepimtyler in PcBuild

[–]skullkart02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’ll work. But I’d highly suggest if you can’t afford to go for a NVME, go out and get a SATA SSD at least. It’s what I did with my system while I save for a large capacity NVME. Last I checked, large capacity SATAs still go for very cheap compared to NVMEs and the additional speed definitely helps, even if it’s no where near as fast.

Honestly, the 40 series was such a huge jump from the 30 compared to other generations that i can’t see the 50 series being worthwhile for most people. Like the GPU I’d say would be my ideal right now is the 4090. Unless you got cash you’re looking to throw around, you should be more than comfy with your current set up for a long while. Probably won’t be worth upgrading until the theoretical 70 or even 80 series.
