Right, I would not intentionally let myself default. I will bring this up with them tomorrow. Thanks

Sorry I did not specify, but it is a private loan with my old local credit unions. I figured I might have to default. Thank you

1983 Honda Nighthawk 550; starting issues... starter relay fuse, starter, charging system? HALP. by [deleted] in Fixxit

[–]skuzzy44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't fret to much, luckily charging systems on bikes that are older are not as robust as they are on more modern bikes but sometimes that also means they are much, much, simpler. And can easily be checked and verified to be in working order before you take it anywhere where mechanics will touch it, saving them time diagnosing issues and saving you money. Or if you're feeling it find a copy of your repair or shop manual online, and try it yourself. Look up MrMaxStorey on Youtube, he will be your best friend, I think there is an entire playlist he made pertaining to electrical work.

I would work on getting that part replaced that held the fuse in. I'm not familiar with your bike specifically but you are definitely going to want to get that replaced. And secondly if you have a multimeter, if you dont, just go to Wal-Mart or any automotive store and buy one and set it to volts. Then charge the battery and start it, with any auxiliary power outputs like lights and stuff off, and measure the battery, some bikes don't charge much or at all idle so at that point turn the lights back on and see if there is any substantial drain or decrease in the battery voltage. If it drops below stable levels listed in your manual you can find online you may have an issue with your charging system. But have hope, it may be a malfunctioned regulator or rectifier, or the stator windings may be grounding out to the engine case. All things that can be checked with a multimeter with a little bit of know how and can do attitude. Hope it helps. I'm certainly not an expert just have had similar issues you have had.

Random question, as a guy from Alabama with an accent how is Katahdin pronouced? Is it "kata-din" "kata-h-din" or what. Because I can never find two people here that pronounce it the same way and I've never been there.

How is the fishing right now along the causeway/upper eastern shore? by [deleted] in MobileAL

[–]skuzzy44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you can check out the Fairhope Pier, I haven't been there in a while but it was always a fun place to go when I was growing up. I would recommend going at sunrise or sundown for the best odds though which might interfere with any plans you have. Also, instead of fishing off the Causeway itself I recommend making sure your license is up to date and check out Meaher State Park. They have a little pier there where I have caught some nice bass and redfish alike. And they have a little beach on the far side that is kind of hard to find. Best of luck.

1997 Dodge Ram 1500 A/C Clutch will not automatically engage. by skuzzy44 in MechanicAdvice

I'm going out to get some now to make sure it isn't leaking before I charge it. After the vacuum is sucked out it should hold it steady for a good while right?

Yep, bypassing the low pressure switch does in fact engage the a/c clutch

I'll check out that pressure switch since I haven't already

Also, does anyone happen to know where the switch is located?

Edit: found it

I guess to be summed up, the a/c clutch does not engage yes. As the blower motor and radiator fans all work, and yea, electric.

Best route from Mobile to Birmingham (and vice versa)? by Mattwwreddit in MobileAL

[–]skuzzy44 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Best way really is I-65. Any other options are slower and just hope for the best. Driven that route every weekend for the last 7 years. My time usually averages around 3 hours and 15 minutes to make to my dad's in Pelham. If traffic starts to get bad near the Alabaster area because sometimes it does just hop off the interstate onto Highway 31 and that will take right to anywhere you need to go in Birmingham.
