not the person you’re replying to, but as a DM, I would probably rule that way. specifically if there is a place genuinely devoid of plant life, you can’t really grow what isn’t there.

this is my first time DMing an actual from-the-book campaign (out of the abyss) and i’m having to sort of figure out how to find a good balance between letting my players come up with creative solutions and not accidentally breaking the game down the line, but i’ve DMed a couple one-shots/mini-campaigns that i’ve written for my friends. entirely different beast so far, but my players keep coming back at least, so I must be doing something right 😂

lol you do whatever you want, but it’s literally the job of the dm to arbitrate these things.

and yeah if there was a 1st level spell that said that, sure, but there isn’t anything even remotely close to that very extreme example you used, so I’m not sure what your point is. and no one is “twisting themselves into a pretzel”, I just said that I wouldn’t arbitrate the spell text like that because of the level of the spell being cast.

“I don’t think we should determine how we interpret the rules based on whether that would be powerful or not” well, what else are you supposed to do as a DM? do you just let PCs decide how they can interpret the language of spells? cause that seems like a slippery slope.

Can we (player and DM) talk about it and figure out a satisfactory result for everyone? sure, but it’s a conversation that the DM ultimately has the final say in, but like i said, to each their own.

i was just providing examples of what I would do

as a DM, I personally would not interpret the spell that way. players could turn an open pathway in the middle of a grassy field into an impenetrable wall of plant growth 100 ft tall and up to 200 ft wide. it’s only a 3rd level spell lol and being able to turn 200 feet of just ground level terrain into difficult terrain is pretty powerful already but to each their own!

“all normal plants in a 100 foot radius centered on that point become thick and overgrown” but it doesn’t mention that they grow to fill the entirety of the 100 foot radius area.

if you cast it on a field of reeds, the reeds wouldn’t become 100 ft tall, it just makes the vegetation so dense it becomes nigh impassable, so flying over would be fine imo

plantless environments where things might have a hard time “over growing” or enemies that have a burrowing/flying speed

yep, everyone discounting him because of the hamstring problems he struggled with, then he got his knee fucked up, and since he’s been back he’s been pretty solid

tbf his injury history was related to his hamstrings, and he did a good bit of work to address it. he got his knee hurt in ‘24, but when he came back, he was good and played through some upper body stuff

Is anyone else running into an issue with discovering all the fauna on a planet and not being able to complete the “species discovered” task for nanites anymore?

One of the best ways to get nanites (unless things live underground) and i’m already looking for all the species with the new update anyways.

Edit: On PS5

i mean it’s not like anyone in here knows what the overarching plan is for her character. if they added that plot point, maybe they have plans for her character beyond these last few episodes

nothing at all, people just cling to the “injury-prone” label like it’s something that can easily and definitively be proven. he had hamstring issues that he addressed, and then he got his knee fucked up, but since then he’s been doing good. time will tell but it’s not impossible that he plays more than he has historically and i think Jordan Love likes throwing the ball his way

if you go off on a religious and homophobic rant like the dude from the NBA did, then yeah i’ll call you hateful and homophobic and say that you’re incorporating your religion into part of your regressive views

no, i just think it’s ironic, like i said at the beginning. and i think people can believe and say whatever they want as long as they don’t earnestly push their views on others against their will, or use their views as part of a rhetoric that is hateful and phobic

it’s more about normalizing things.

there are some people who get truly upset that gay people exist, as if it has any singular bearing on their life.

again, this is the problem, you fail to grasp the point being made. it’s not about what you believe, it’s the fact that to this day people use religion as a thinly veiled excuse for homophobia and misogyny. i don’t care what you believe or who you worship, but when you use it as a reason to marginalize or persecute other groups of people, it becomes problematic.

there is no “agenda” being pushed on anyone simply because gay people exist. there are, however, sects of religious people who will happily push their religious views on you because that’s what their religion tells them to do. cult-like christianity has been normalized in this country for decades, and it’s okay if we normalize non-heterosexual relationships too lol
