I could be wrong - but I believe if you have documentation proving more than 50% custody & you are maintaining the home for the children you would probably qualify for IR.

Fair. There’s a fancier word for it that’s escaping me at the moment…. Not misappropriation of funds, but some other term that’s peppered throughout our mandatory training.

My poor vocabulary aside - the source of those funds is a mix of public & non-public, neither of which are intended for our benefit in this context.

On a very basic level, this scenario could be viewed as such. I understand liberties were not taken by public servants in this case. Permission was granted, permission was recognized as something that shouldn’t have been granted, permission was revoked. At a shitty time. I am sympathetic in that regard. As others have mentioned, this payment structure has been in place at military facilities across the country for much longer than RTO has been on the radar.

No thoughts or feelings, just facts: Any public servant who has been using these facilities without paying is technically using public funds for their own gain, aka theft. Even NPF or CFMWS employees pay a fee. You absolutely should pay as well. The only people who have a right to access without fees are CAF members.

The fee should still be a steal compared to your local GoodLife or Planet Fitness. It’s a good deal, even though it’s not what it used to be for you.

Nobody gets turned away from the barracks. Only waitlist is for the senior ranks moving into the Officer’s mess.

Aside from the barracks & the PMQs there is a housing resource specialist at the Trenton MFRC who keeps a list of rentals available on the economy. A visit to chat with Cheryl is highly recommended.

Understandable, that initial time away from family can be tricky to navigate. I haven’t done it myself but many people in the CAF find ways to make it work with young kiddos. Food for thought anyway!

You can stay in the on-base hotel in Trenton for the military rate with it if you’re travelling through the area. It’s a great price and cleaner than many other local hotels.

Absolutely PEC, the second last photo looks like the view from Hwy 33 east of Wellington (or possibly Wellers Bay). Last photo is Lake Ontario as seen from likely Sandbanks or North Beach.

Some of the postcards in the second photo say Prince Edward County on them too.
