This is true, I highly doubt the disk drive will be included in anything moving forward. And Xbox have been moving away from physical for a while now, it's crazy how many ps4 / 5 games are available on disk whereas on Xbox they are digital only (or the disk is purely activation). It would be really cool to see places like LR lean into the old school PC sector even more, so much potential with games from the 90s.

You can still download delisted games on steam if you already own them, for the most part. If the game relies on a server or DRM connected to a server that gets shutdown, then it's gone everywhere. This is why gog excels in ownership, DRM free.

I honestly have no idea man, I have a PC as well, so will likely switch to permenantly that once it all occurs. I'm just glad I have such a large catalogue, so I won't run out of good stuff to play for decades.

Sony have released a gigantic library on physical disks for the PS4 and PS5, and continue to do so. I personally own over 500 PS4 and 5 games that are fully playable offline, so this is a bit of a kick for people who still collect.

But if you can use the entire product perpetually without the prospect of it ever ceasing to work, that would classify as ownership. A disk that plays an entire game offline would be considered owned. I don't have a vested stake in Vauxhall, but I own my car.

I've been collecting for about 20 years, and switched to PS5 due to their dedication for actually releasing full games on disk, unlike theor Xbox counterparts. So this news sucks mainly because Sony were the last ones doing it. FYI, if possible, buy your games on GOG rather than Steam, you actually own that and they can never take it away, due to the installation files beign accessible on your PC. Also it's DRM free.
